    Male Students 

Hanase Shouma (花瀬 詳真)

Ultimate Linguist/Polyglot

The protagonist of Wolf’s Game. Shouma is able to speak over 30 languages, earning him the title of Ultimate Linguist/Polyglot. He is a kindhearted, polite, and bright individual, but he is also not afraid to fight back when the situation calls for it.


  • Ambiguously Bi: Seems to develop incredibly intimate relationships with at least three of his male classmates, while also getting a bit of Ship Tease to one of his female ones. Time will tell what way he swings.
  • Action Survivor: Surprisingly enough given his Ultimate and glasses, he's quite capable of performing athletic feats when need be. Best shown whenever he's tasering someone.
  • Omniglot: He can fluently listen, read, speak and write over 30 languages in the world, his specialty being European languages.
  • Nice Guy:He's one of the nicest most polite students.
  • Punny Name: His last name Hanase literally means 'speak!' in Japanese, therefore it is a pun.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Shouma gives one to Kazuto due to the fact that the latter had just insulted him, just for the fact that they had brought a possible explanation about the Midnight Killer's real identity.

Mamori Eijiro (守里 衛士郎)

Ultimate Bodyguard

Mamori’s profession as the Ultimate Bodyguard shaped him to have a collected and stoic personality. In spite of this, he also has a guilty pleasure with magical girl anime. He quickly becomes friends with Shouma, and is protective over the other students.


  • Declaration of Protection: To the entire group of students and Shouma in particular.
  • Deuteragonist: He quickly becomes Shouma’s closest friend.
  • Meaningful Name: the kanji for 'eijiro' means 'bodyguard boy' (衛士郎), clearly reflecting his talent and his desire to protect everyone's lives.
  • Not So Above It All: He’s a fan of magical girl anime. One of his sprite poses is Shout-Out to Sailor Moon.
  • Punny Name: His last name sounds almost the same as 'mamoru', Japanese for 'to protect'. Furthermore, there is the kanji for protect (守, mamoru)' as well.
  • Taking the Bullet: After Kyo decide a fitting punishment for Oboro, the Twilight Werewolf, she reveals that she is gonna leave one last gift for the unsuspecting students, suddenly pulling a gun and aiming at Shouma. Mamori quickly makes use of his Ultimate Talent and jumps in front of the bullet, surprising everyone, including the shooter. His status are unknown for the moment.
  • Yakuza: Mamori used to be a member of a Yakuza clan before he became a bodyguard. He also has had Yakuza leaders as clients in the past.

Otomoto Kazuto (音本 一十)

Kazuto, also known by his stage name CAZ-CX, is the upbeat Ultimate Beatboxer, who is also passionate about numbers. He tends to be violent when feeling intense emotions.


  • Meaningful Name: his surname Otomoto has 'oto', meaning sound, reflecting his musical talent. The meaning for Kazuto's kanji literally means 'one ten', which reflects 110 being his favorite number, so much so that his motif is based around that number.
  • Stage Name: his stage name is CAZ-CX (pronounced kaz-see-ex). The CX is the Roman numeral for his name and favorite number: 110.

Touga Tatsumasa (冬河 達正)

  • Jazz: He is the Ultimate Jazz Singer and his Free Time Events involves the origins of his talent and his passion for jazz.
  • Let Me Tell You a Story: Masa’s Free Time Events involve him telling a story about a “Cool Cat.” Later we find out this was a story talking about how he became the Ultimate Jazz Singer.
  • Mellow Fellow: Masa is a very chill character that rarely shows strong emotions.

Dokugawa Kyo (毒川 協)

  • Establishing Character Moment: In the chemistry lab, Kyo threatens Shouma and Mamori.
  • Even Evil Can Be Loved: Shown when the remaining cast (especially Shouma) shows sympathy for him after his brother dies in front of him.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He mentions having two siblings and a girlfriend in the third class trial.
  • Good All Along: He was really trying to end the killing game and protect his loved ones.
  • Hated by All: Everyone despises him especially after he indirectly caused about 4 of their classmates' deaths and held another hostage.
  • Jerkass: Unlike the rest of the students, he doesn’t bother to hide his bloodlust and repeatedly insults and threatens others.
  • Meaningful Name: His surname contains the word for poison (毒, doku), fitting his talent as a toxicologist.
  • Wild Card: In the tradition of Nagito or Kokichi, he's the main antagonistic force amongst the students.
    • As evil as he seemed, his actions were focused on ending the killing game. By Chapter 3, he's derailed the game so badly the masterminds are ready to blow it up with an unsolvable case and start over.

  • Dreaming the Truth: Kouki has dreams that end up foreshadowing the deaths of his classmates.
  • Establishing Character Moment: When Shouma and Mamori find Kouki, he is so devoted to his prayer that he couldn’t hear the announcement.
  • Idiot Hair: In proud Danganronpa tradition. Oddly enough, he isn’t the main protagonist, although he does get several scenes from his point of view, particularly in chapter 3.
  • Talking in Your Dreams: Kouki has a dream at the beginning of chapter 3 where he talks to the deceased Cherry Barrister.

Tomoyasu Seisuke (友康 靖介)

  • Celibate Hero: Justified. He is an aromantic asexual character. A fact of his that Oboro uses to convince the others that she's the real Seisuke in the third class trial.
    • Showcased in various places in the third chapter such as in his Free Time Event:
      Seisuke: Yeah, I don’t really have what people call ‘tastes’. I’m not even interested in romance at all, ahaha…
    • ...and Aftershock, the first part of the Daily Life section:
      Yomiko: I really hope you don’t, or you might walk into someone’s room and do… ‘unspeakable’ things to them.
      Seisuke: Ahaha… that I’m pretty sure I’ll never do…
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: well, dark grey-haired.
  • The Insomniac: Seisuke is inflicted with chronic insomnia, he only gets 2 hours of sleep almost every night. That is why he always has a gloomy, somnolent visage. His dark circles are also very prominent.
  • Private Detective: In the third chapter, Seisuke reveals to everyone in the cast that he is not the Ultimate Sociologist and that he’s actually the Ultimate Detective.
    • This actually turns out to be a lie, but with his intelligence and perceptiveness he's bound to get mistaken as one.
  • Undeathly Pallor: He thinks that he is literally undead due to Cotard's delusion, a mental disorder that makes victims think their bodies are literally decomposing. It's also known as walking corpse syndrome.

    Female Students 

Saizaki Chie (幸崎 千恵)

Ultimate Lucky Student

  • Born Lucky: As the ultimate lucky student. She attributes it to her lucky charms.
  • Crush Blush: Exhibits this in most of the moments where Shouma is talked about or is talking to her.
  • Good Luck Charm: Owns various Japanese lucky items. Her favorites are her hagoita, which she always carries, and her omamori charms.

Murakami Yomiko (村上 読子)

  • Sailor Fuku: Yomiko is wearing one underneath her yellow sleeveless sweater.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Yomiko is very proud of her alias, Wagae Rando, and her writing as a Mystery Novelist. She is appalled to hear that not many people in the Sanctuary know of her.

Haibara Nonoka (灰原 野乃花)

  • The Ditherer: She is the epitome of this trope. Her talent, how she refers to herself, and even her differently-colored contact lens are reflections of her indecisive nature. She cannot decide almost anything by herself, even small decisions such as what to do next.
  • Jack of All Trades: Her Talent, she has many skills in many different fields, but her best being singing. She is also very good at multitasking.
  • Punny Name: Her full name is a huge pun galore. Hai in Haibara is yes in Japanese, while the two No's in Nonoka is just English. It also reflects how she likes to say "no no!" instead of just "no!"
  • Third-Person Person: She almost always refers to herself as “Nonoka”, although her referring to herself with first person pronouns can sometimes happen.

Usuki Aisa (薄黄 愛彩)

  • Driven to Suicide: Was this after she was accused of being Aizawa Yui and gaslighted by the Twilight Werewolf (who was pretending to be Seisuke at the time).
  • Heroic BSoD: After Cherry’s death.

Cherry Barrister

  • Gone Horribly Wrong: In Chapter 1, Cherry intended to poison someone at breakfast with arsenic. However, due to short memory, she forgot which bottle contained the arsenic and, in the end, wound up dead herself.
  • Talking in Your Dreams: Does so to Kouki at the beginning of chapter three.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: As the first victim of the killing game, she obviously doesn’t get much development.
    • Subverted: Via her Memories of Everybody entry, Memories of Everybody being an intermission part that serves as posthumous insight into the lives of the victims and culprits shown so far in the story, as well as seperating the two seasons of the main story.

Yakumo Oboro (夜雲 朧)

Heiress to a famous perfume company, Oboro is a flirtatious woman who calls herself “Big Sister” and the other characters her “lil brothers/sisters.” However, she is someone who is much more than her appearance and is deeply caring towards the cast. Oboro is the Chapter 3 victim, having one of the darkest BDA’s in DRWG, or so it initially appears. In truth, she is both the Chapter 3 killer, driving Aisa to suicide and strangling Seisuke before faking her death, and the Twilight Werewolf, one of the game's masterminds.


  • Cool Big Sis: Proclaims herself the big sister of everyone in the class.

Ena Hinomiya (日ノ宮 エナ)

  • Death from Above: Ena is killed by having a light truss fall and crush her from above.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: As the lycan, Ena created an elaborate plan for the talent show to lure and kill Kyo. However, Kyo had discovered her plan, and the culprit had taken the blue remote switch, left by Kazuto, from backstage. In the end, Ena was tranquilized under the spotlight and killed by her own plan.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: To the point where she and Shouma have an entire FTE centered around swearing.

Oniyanagi Myoko (鬼柳 妙子)

  • Evil Mask: She always wears a hannya mask at the left side of her head. These masks are symbols of good luck as house decorations, and they are predominantly used in Japanese Noh theatre.
  • Establishing Character Moment: In the prologue, when Shouma and Mamori look for the remaining students, Myoko finds them first and scares the both of them.
  • Meaningful Name: her last name has the kanji for demon (鬼, oni) in it, reflecting her nature as a youkai.
  • Nightmare Face: She makes disturbing faces on the regular, but the worst one is during her breakdown in the second trial. She looks like a literal demon!
  • Youkai: she is a hannya, a yokai that were once human women who were consumed by jealousy and transformed into demonesses. She even went as far as proclaiming that she's the Queen of yokai that descends from the Japanese underworld, yomi.

  • Long-Lost Relative: Revealed to be one to Chie.
  • Walking Spoiler: The spoiler being the real identity of the Ultimate Storyteller.
  • Youkai: During her self-created execution named The Origin of the Yuki-onna, she tells her own origin story of how the yuki-onna was created: banished by her own people to the snowy wilderness, and died there in solitude.
  • Yuki-onna: Chizuyo based her execution on her interpretation of the yuki-onna. Her interpretation reflects the ostracization from her family and the loneliness she had experienced until her final moments.

Delilah Charbonneau-Chu

  • Eidetic Memory: One of her talents, and the main reason she has the other.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Has a great fondness for macarons, so much that she always a box full of them with her. It can be said that she is obsessed with these pastel-colored French pastries...
  • Walking Spoiler: Randomly shows up in the middle of the third investigation. She appears to be quite familiar with killing games and Monokuma.

    Mastermind/Werewolf 
Umbra and Twilight. Yes, there are two Werewolves, two Masterminds of the Killing Sanctuary Exam! They are human traffickers whose main goal can be summarized by this chilling time capsule letter in this video. They want the destruction of the human race and the world itself under the hands of their Master, the Alpha Wolf. One of the main reasons why they orchestrated multiple Killing Sanctuary Exam is to 'bring back their Master to their true morality'.

Twilight Werewolf

  • Dead Person Impersonation: Impersonates Seisuke using Aisa's make up in the third trial to try and make the others believe he is the Twilight Werewolf and vote incorrectly.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death:
    • Subverted. She enjoys the death given to her, or at least the reaction it elicits.
    • Deals one out to the Ultimate Sociologist, stabbing him, raping him, eating him, and removing his limbs.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: Inverted when she lets it slip that the murder weapon being located in Dokugawa's bed was put there as a way of framing him.
  • Master of Disguise: Manages to impersonate a male student for an exceptionally long period of time without drawing too much suspicion, despite having those breasts.
  • Tempting Apple: Offers one to Kouki while enticing him to join her side.
  • Thanatos Gambit: Of course she'll let you decide how she gets executed. Too bad she's also subjecting an innocent person to the same fate for funzies... and enjoys her painful death.
  • You Monster!: Elicits this reaction, rather justifiably.

  • Angst Coma: Right when the name of Kyo's little brother is revealed, the Twilight Werewolf had already claimed he is in a state of coma due to the sheer damage of his class' plane crash. What makes it worse is that he is executed along with the Twilight Werewolf in Chapter Three's class trial while comatose.
