Our hero. A mild-mannered billionaire playboy by day, a hardened but noble vigilante by night. As the story begins, Batman, already a seasoned crimefighter, has been deputized by the Gotham Police Department to legalize his crime fighting efforts.

  • Crazy-Prepared: As usual, he has a thousand contingencies for everything and even gives himself nightmares on purpose for psychological training.
  • Genius Bruiser: He’s trained his body to take down an army of goons and his mind to match wits with the likes of Riddler and Joker.
  • It's Personal: Has a personal interest in the defeat and redemption of Harvey Dent, due to their friendship.

    Robin / Dick Grayson

  • Circus Brat: Is mentioned as having grown up in the circus, much like his other incarnations.
  • Kid Sidekick: One of the younger versions of the character, having been mentioned to still be in school.
  • Mad Libs Catchphrase: His famous “Holy _____, Batman!” returns.

    Alfred Pennyworth

Alfred Pennyworth

The majordomo of Wayne Manor. Alfred is as always a major source of wisdom and advice for the dynamic duo.

  • Servile Snarker: It is Alfred Pennyworth, after all...
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: He has an ongoing feud with the Batcomputer of all things. He claims not to understand it, but Batman believes he does and just doesn’t like what it has to say.

    Catwoman / Selina Kyle

Voiced by: Rosario Dawson

A daring cat burglar and on-again-off-again paramour of Batman’s. Their relationship has become strained as Batman goes legit and she sticks to her own less-than-savory methods to clean up Gotham.

  • A Lighter Shade of Black: She isn’t exactly on Batman’s team, but she isn’t out to control or torment the city like the other villains.
  • Berserk Button: Being a cat lover, the quickest way to get on her bad side is to harm any member of the feline species. For example, she turns her simple break-in of Mayor Hill’s mansion into outright vandalism once she sees his two lion hunting trophies.
  • Honey Trap: She is introduced in disguise, flirting with King Scimitar to get into his private office and at his money.
  • Kind Hearted Cat Lover: Well, “kind-hearted” might be a stretch, but Vicky Vale is able to convince Selina to let her stay for a few nights by showing off a cat she claims she rescued from Santa Prisca.

    The Joker

The Joker

Voiced by: Brent Spiner

The Clown Prince of Crime himself. Batman’s most deranged admirer and deadliest enemy. He has resurfaced in Gotham City with intent to continue his “dance” with the Caped Crusader.

  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: At the end of season one, Batman reveals he exposed himself to the same chemicals that has supposedly warped Joker’s mind, and suffered no similar effects. Despite Joker’s claims that Batman made him the madman he is today, the truth is he was always that insane and evil, simply using that initial confrontation and its outcome as an excuse.
  • Villainous Crush: Perhaps one of the most blatant examples associated with the character yet. He views himself and Batman as partners in a dance and announces his return with a message that can be interpreted as “be mine or else”. His “Dark-Purple Dawn” scheme is being carried out on Valentine’s Day and is a love potion that will cause its victims to fall in love with him.
  • Villains Out Shopping: In the final episode of season one, Riddler storms into Joker’s hideout while he is in the middle of cooking eggs in a bathrobe.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Shockingly, the Joker has gained a following within Gotham’s youth, claiming his as an anti-authoritarian folk hero. Batman later confirms he has hundreds of devotees in the city, being as much a relief for people in Gotham as he is a cancer.

    Harvey Dent / Two-Face

Voiced by: Ike Barinholtz

Once the district attorney of Gotham City and a dear friend of Bruce Wayne, Harvey Dent was warped when an attempt on his life left half his face scarred and his mind split into two personalities. Now the gangster Two-Face, he terrorizes Gotham City, leaving the fates of his victims and would-be victims down to the flip of a coin.

  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: While his a violent, insane thug, his history as a DA has given him a significant knowledge of the law, which he is able to use to avoid justice.
  • The Heavy: In the Gotham underworld, Harvey has been described as the “two-ton gorilla” who keeps the small time crooks in check.
  • Split Personality: One the one side there is the classier, more gentlemanly Harvey Dent, on the other is the cruder, crueler Two-Face.
  • Talking to Themself: Harvey and Two-face often have entire arguments with each other, often as they carry out their crimes.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Because of their past friendship, Bruce takes his efforts to save and reform Harvey very seriously.

    Oswald Cobblepot / The Penguin

Voiced by: Bobby Moynihan

An entrepreneur and crime boss in Gotham City. Short and short tempered, he will stop at nothing to gain control of the underworld.

  • Berserk Button: He hates his nickname, “The Penguin”. Calling him by that name is a good way to earn yourself some physical or mental anguish, as his man Finchley can attest.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Presents himself as a distinguished, civilized gentleman, but can be quick to show his true colors as a violent, vindictive thug.

    Edward Nygma / The Riddler

Edward Nygma / The Riddler

Voiced by: John Leguizamo

A narcissistic super-genius and terrorist with a penchant for puzzles. He escapes Arkham Asylum with the intent of humiliating and defeating Batman once and for all.

  • Break the Haughty: Riddler believes himself too intelligent and able minded to be sent to Arkham Asylum, vowing never to go back. He is also convinced that he is better than the Joker, as he believes that riddles are superior to jokes and are more intelligent and that he is an artist of crime. Spending five minutes alone with the Joker and seeing the depravity of his "jokes" shows that Joker is the true artist, and is left so broken that he turns himself in to the asylum a sobbing mess.
  • Insufferable Genius: He has a massive IQ and he loves to rub it in the faces of everyone he meets. He will stop at nothing to prove himself smarter than Batman.
  • Large Ham: He is loud, flamboyant, craves attention, and will do anything to make the people fear him.
  • Only Known By His Nickname: As he explains, “Edward Nygma” is his pseudonym.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Considers himself the criminal mastermind that everyone in Gotham fears, when in reality he is mostly scoffed at by the populace. Even while doing his most dangerous act yet, driving an ocean liner straight into a crowded Iceberg Lounge, the people think the Joker is behind it instead.
