Main character
    Liu Jin

Liu Jin

our heaven defiant protagonist
"What a pity. There are a great many things that make me sad.”

The main character of the story, a serious boy that honestly would like it if the world could just let him be a doctor, but knows that he is asking for too much.

  • Acquired Poison Immunity: Old Jiang repeatedly feeds Liu Jin progressively stronger poisons and teaches him to isolate and expel them from his body, to prepare him to handle the venom of the Nine-Headed Snake God. After spending three years with that continuously pumping into him, there’s probably no poison in the world that would harm Liu Jin.
  • Artificial Gravity: As Jin has entered the Earth Realm, he now must deal with its curse - an increased gravity around himself that only gets harsher as he will advance through the realm.
  • Animal Motifs: The motif that comes out the most regarding Jin is that his symbol is the snake, which he got after he successfully passed the inheritance test of The Nine-Headed Snake God Another animal motif that Jin acquired recently is the dragon motif, which is natural, with the dragon being his family's motif. Thematically, this ties him to a caduceus, as his core desire is to be a doctor.
  • Arranged Marriage: Liu Jin and Xiao Shuang have been in one for almost their entire lives, much to Liu Jin’s surprise. The wedding was supposed to occur when they were older but Meng Yue discovering Shuang forced them to move the schedule forward as quickly as they could, so the Divine Frozen Palace couldn’t just take Shuang immediately and later marry her off for their own purposes.
  • Astral Projection: Jin has figured out how to split his soul into seperated pieces in the Spirit Realm (incredibly early and far before his soul was ready for the strain. Not to mention doing it almost completely wrong.) at first he could only split his soul into two parts, and even that strained him deeply. But now he can separate his soul into at least five if not more pieces.
  • Big Brother Mentor: For Jin it goes both ways, he has a big brother like mentor in Xiao Nan, and he is a big brother mentor to Feng Hao.
  • Bio Manipulation: A part of the DFS learning Jin has been doing was on how to manipulate flesh in all its forms. Dead, alive and otherwise. So long as he controls the Qi in the flesh he can make it do what he wants. The complexity is dependent on the amount of flesh he has available to him.
  • Blue Blood: As a part of Royal Family of The Storm Dragon Empire and more importantly the son of the Black Storm Dragon (the previous emperor). Jin has blue blood in spades.
  • Break the Cutie: The fact that his home got invaded and then the place got salted down because of someone he saved from death broke him so hard that his soul went out of alignment.
  • Chick Magnet: The story is named "A cliche xianxia harem story", so it makes some sense that he will have a harem at some point. He currently has his wife, a lover, and a couple of women interested in him.
  • Deadly Doctor: Jin has used his medical expertise to save his own life and in the process kill the ones that threatened him, such as the time in the Forest of Whispers when he uses acupuncture points to harm instead of to heal.
  • Master of Your Domain: Jin can control and heal and twist his body in almost anyway that he wants due to what he had gleaned from the DFS. Especially after the Fleshcrafter fight where he had to learn body manipulation on the spot or die in agony.
  • My Fist Forgives You: Invoked by Jin when his older brother figure Nan asks him to make him do something so that Nan feels like Jin has forgiven him.
  • Poisonous Person: As a result of Jin passing the Nine-Headed Snake God's test, he is able to make deadly poison and mix it with his Qi to great effect.
  • The Protagonist: The main character of the story.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Shares this dynamic with Xiao Fang. Jin is the blue oni, far more in control of his emotions and more analytical during every waking moment.
  • Scaled Up: at moments of desperation and urgency, the veins of the nine headed snake god had shown strange effects on jins body. One of those effects is growing scales, as seen after Xun Huwen nearly destroyed jins entire body, what was left of his body was covered in snake scales. After jin Sheds out of his old body after being nearly killed by the Fleshcrafter and advancing into the Earth realm. He finds that his body now produces scales whenever he uses qi to reinforce his body enough to move through the earth realm curse. This is because in the process of shedding jin has begun to turn his body even more into that of a snake/hydra demon.
  • Shock and Awe: Liu Jin is able to transform the base nature of his Qi into the shape of lightning. As a Qing he has access to purple lightning, a variant of lightning thwt is stronger than the normal Pinnacle of the element, which normally only goes up until gold.
  • Snakes Are Sinister: Averted in Jin's case. While the fact that Jin creates snake constructs and uses poison at all time naturally doesn't really endear him to most people, Jin himself is not a sinister guy, and is in fact quite the opposite. He would love nothing more than to be a healer.
  • The Stoic: Jin is someone that doesn't show much (if any) emotion on his face unless the situation is dire.

Family

The Black Storm Dragon
"Everyone does, son. The important thing is to never forget you still have much to learn."
Liu Jin's father and his inspiration on how to live his life. He is the only character we see that can't cultivate, making him a cripple.
  • Animal Motifs: The animal motif that Jianguo was before he crippled his cultivation was the dragon, as he was known as the Black Storm Dragon.
  • The Atoner: After Jianguo succeeded in exacting his revenge on all of the people that he saw as complicit in his parents' murder, he started to check himself against what he wanted to be, and what he was now. He didn't like what he saw in the mirror, and because of that, crippled himself and became a simple doctor.
  • Blue Blood: As the former Emperor of The SDE (Storm Dragon Empire) and a member of the Royal Wing heritage, Jiangou is as blue blood as it comes. It just doesn't come into effect much because he both crippled himself + exiled himself away from everything relating to that.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Liu Jianguo crippled his meridians, removing his ability to use Qi, as part of his penance. Although, in this world, that’s very abnormal.
  • Deadly Doctor: Jianguo came to learn before Old Jiang the ways of cultivation and medicine after he was exiled from his own country. During the time he spent learning, Jiang made him promise that he would only use the medical techniques he learned for their intended purposes. Jianguo had no such intentions, and when he went to get his revenge against his brother, he used his medical techniques to harm other people.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: Liu Jin finds his father, just after Jianguo engulfed himself and a group of enemy soldiers in a cloud of poison, buying their neighbours time to escape. Jianguo is extremely happy that he got to die being held by his son.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Jianguo engulfed himself and a group of enemy soldiers at the invasion of Eastern Port City in a cloud of poison so that his neighbours and other people could have a chance of getting away from them.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: Jiangou was, at the start of his journey, someone who wanted justice for the assassination of his parents by his older brother, but he went completely off the rails and started to kill people that were at best tangentially related to the murder/were not even born when it happened.

    Old Jiang

Divine Doctor
"If you succeed despite all your flaws, you are clearly doing something right."
'The greatest doctor to ever be in the world' former master of Jianguo and Liu Jin. He is poisoned by something so strong that even he can't fix himself and has resolved to entrust everything he knows to Liu Jin.
  • Deity of Human Origin: Old Jiang is one of the very few able to cross the chasm that there is between the human realms of cultivation and the divine realms.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: Old Jiang died from a poison that rotted his soul bit by bit, which even he could not fix.
  • Old Master: He is the ultimate master of anything medical in the story and has taught both Liu Jin and Jianguo everything they know about both cultivation and medicine.
  • Really 700 Years Old: No one really knows how old "Old Jiang" is, but what is known is that he is an Emperor class cultivator, and based on the other Emperors we see, people in that realm tend to live for upwards of a thousand years or so.
