Major Characters

    Atma 

Atma

An Ordinary High-School Student in his last year of school. Together with his girlfriend Raya, they make a bucket list of things to do before they graduate. While doing so, they encounter mysterious happenings around the city. He keeps having dreams about hanging out with a girl named Nirmala.


    Raya (Unmarked Spoilers!) 

Raya Fitri Nirmala

Atma's girlfriend. She creates a bucket list of things to do with Atma before their school days are over. Some time later, she reveals that she has a superpower that lets her create anything she likes. However, using her powers will make her tired, and as the story progresses, her powers cause many chaos happening around the town.


  • Broken Bird: She has been through a lot her whole life. Abused by her father, bullied by her classmates, and then she lost Atma.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Near the end of Chapter 5, Raya, with the help of her mother, confronts her father. She calls him out for being awful to her, her mother, and everyone, before saying that she will move forward and leave him behind.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: After losing Atma at the river, she pushes away Nirmala from herself and decides that she will start living normally before making Nirmala disappear.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She is Nirmala, whose past was being bullied and mistreated by her father. Worse, she watched Atma drown in front of her.
  • Friendless Background: She never had any real friends aside from Atma. She was bullied at school as a child, and her other friend Marin never helped her.
  • Given Name Reveal: Her full name is revealed in Chapter 5. It is Raya Fitri Nirmala.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: After Atma dies, she pushes away Nirmala and declares that she wants to be a normal girl with good grades instead of being a freak who writes pointless stories.
  • Lost Pet Grievance: When Erik accidentally kills Admiral, Raya becomes furious with Erik. So furious that she removes him from existence.
  • Reality Warper: Her "superpower". She can make money appear in Atma’s pocket, create Cat Wonderland, and alter the movie being played at the cinema, to name a few. However, she gets tired every time she uses her powers. Later, it turns out that the entire world is actually inside Raya’s mind, which explains why she can alter things as she pleases.
  • Significant Monogram: Anything that has RFN in it is related to her as it is the initials of her full name.
  • Survivor's Guilt: She felt guilty for causing Atma to drown in the river.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: She is Nirmala, the one who played and wrote stories together with Atma. Being bullied, mistreated by her father, and losing Atma has made her broken.
  • Walking Spoiler: Most of her characteristics and her past are massive spoilers that aren’t explored until the end of the game, making almost all of her entries spoilers.

    Erik 

Erik Priyambodo

A classmate of Atma and Raya. He is a delinquent who rides a motorcycle. He has a crush on Raya and dislikes Atma for dating Raya.


  • Accidental Murder: Erik accidentally kills Admiral caused by his reckless motorcycle riding.
  • Childhood Friends: He knows Raya since they were little.
  • Delinquents: He rides a motorcycle, acts rude, leads a Gang of Bullies, and is seen smoking at one point in the game.
  • Establishing Character Moment: He is introduced as being rude to Atma, mocking him, and asks him for a pack of cigarettes in exchange for the dog toy he’s holding. This establishes him as a bad boy jerk.
  • Gang of Bullies: He leads a gang of 3 other classmates that always follow him.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: He tries to give Raya a Black Forest Gateau that he stole from Atma so that she can forgive him. However, Raya not only refuses, but also vaporizes Erik while Atma watches in disbelief.
  • Heel Realization: In Chapter 5, when going through the dark cloud, Raya meets with Erik who realizes that he has been terrible to Raya and asks for her forgiveness.
  • Jerk Jock: He is rude, wears a jacket, leads a Gang of Bullies, and antagonizes Atma.
  • Love Triangle: A part of one with Atma and Raya. He is jealous of Atma dating Raya.
  • Loving Bully: He actually has feelings for Raya, but he can’t express his feelings and keeps bullying her hoping that she will notice him.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: He goes Oh, Crap! when he accidentally kills Admiral and realizes that it is Raya’s cat.
  • Reformed Bully: In the Epilogue, he is seen petting a cat and is much nicer.

    Lulu 

Lusi Oktavianti

A student in Atma’s school that Atma met in the general store while searching for cat food. Erik is her cousin.


  • Affectionate Nickname: She is called Lucy by Madam Puspa, because Lulu reminds the latter of lily flowers.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: She is dark haired, tall, and very popular in school. She is mentioned to be unapproachable, making the guys think they have no chance of dating her.
  • In-Series Nickname: She is called Lulu by almost everyone in the game.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Lulu is not the amnesiac, it’s the people closely related to her. After snapping them out from having false identity, they don’t know who Lulu is.
  • School Idol: She is respected by many students in the school.
  • Student Council President: She was the president in the previous year before the game started.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: In Chapter 5, when Raya passes through the dark cloud, there’s a flashback of Lulu confronting Raya. Lulu calls out Raya for not raising enough funds for Lintang Festival and for not communicating with other festival committee members, which almost ruined the festival preparations. Lulu then forcibly takes over the preparations.

    Marin 

Marin

A girl that bumped into Atma at the beginning of the game. She is often seen in the school library.


  • Accomplice by Inaction: Marin knows about Raya’s bullying and her abusive father, but never helped Raya. This caused Raya and Marin to have a falling out.
  • Childhood Friends: She was Raya’s childhood friend, when Raya is still called Nirmala.
  • Crash-Into Hello: She is introduced by bumping into Atma and dropping the Magic Red Book.
  • Cute Bookworm: She is frequently seen in the library, and at one time is tasked with keeping the library keys.
  • Only Friend: She was the only friend Nirmala has before Atma met the latter.
  • Shrinking Violet: She is shy when talking to people.
  • We Used to Be Friends: She used to be friends with Raya/Nirmala, but because Marin never helped Raya about the latter’s issues, Raya has since become bitter to Marin.

    Nirmala 

Nirmala

A mysterious girl that appears in Atma’s dream.


  • Abusive Parents: Her father berates and hits her for not doing well at school and for not being a normal girl. It is hinted by her drawings and the family photo that her father wasn’t abusive in the past.
  • Cheerful Child: She looks cheerful in Atma’s dreams while they are spending time together.
  • Damsel in Distress: When Atma reaches the basecamp with the Magic Wand, Nirmala falls into the river and cries for help. Atma tries to help her but he fails and drowns.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: With Atma. They play and write stories together at their basecamp.
  • Literal Split Personality: She is the South Star Princess, the other half of Raya, the North. She was pushed away by Raya after watching Atma drown.
  • Meaningful Name: "Nirmala" means flawless or unblemished, reflecting her being the more innocent, carefree half of Raya.
  • The Runaway: In Chapter 0, she ran away from home to play with Atma.
  • Split-Personality Merge: After reuniting with Raya, they hug and Nirmala disappears to merge with Raya.

    Bosque (Unmarked Spoilers!) 

Bosque

A black and white cat in Chapter 0 that leads Atma to Nirmala’s house. He apparently becomes a monster cat that impedes Atma’s progress during the game.


  • Animalistic Abomination: His monster form is a gigantic humanoid cat with a beak and a pair of wings.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Saves Atma from drowning in Chapter 5. Later he comes to fight Admiral so that Atma can continue looking for Raya.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Introduced in Chapter 0 as an ordinary cat that guides Atma to Nirmala’s house. Sometime later he apparently becomes a monster cat that impedes Atma’s progress during Spacedives. Later in the game, he becomes an ally to Atma.
  • Good All Along: He is revealed later to be good, being Nirmala’s guardian and aiding Atma in saving Raya during Chapter 5.
  • Mr. Exposition: He is the one explaining Atma the nature of the game’s world and why people are turned into monsters.
  • Mix And Match Creature: His monster form is a combination of a cat and a bird, having wings and beak with cat’s head and humanoid body.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifter: Can transform between a regular cat and a monstrous form at will.
  • Walking Spoiler: His true appearance and role isn’t revealed until much later, making almost all entries in here spoilers.
  • Wind from Beneath My Wings: When forcing out Atma from Spacedives, Bosque flaps his wings to blow Atma away.

    Admiral 

Admiral

An orange-white cat that Raya and Atma found in Chapter 1, Raya decides they should keep her as a pet.


  • Accidental Murder: Admiral is killed by Erik carelessly riding his motorcycle, accidentally running over her.
  • Deathbringer the Adorable: Atma notes that Admiral is too strong of a name to give to a cat.
  • No-Sell: When she transforms into her monster form, Atma cannot damage her at all. It’s only when Bosque comes to Atma’s rescue that Admiral finds an equal match.
  • Non-Human Sidekick: She accompanies Atma through most of Chapter 2.
  • One-Winged Angel: In Chapter 5, she transforms into a giant cat with broken wings to fight Atma.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: She is able to talk with other animals and understand them.
  • Talking Animal: When in Cat Wonderland, she can talk along with other cats. In Chapter 2, she becomes Atma’s sidekick and can translate what other animals are saying.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifter: She can transform from a regular cat to a monstrous giant form.
  • Welcome to Corneria: In Chapter 3, she mysteriously appears after Lulu transforms and leaves to find Raya. Admiral will repeatedly say that Raya is waiting at the bridge and doesn’t say anything else.

Minor Characters

    Mr. Agung 

Agung Moeljono Putra

A teacher at Atma and Raya’s school that teaches civic studies. He is stern and often scolds students.


  • Ancestral Name: He is named after his late father, Major Agung Moeljono.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: During Chapter 3, he believes himself to be a major of the army and orders students around like soldiers.
  • Not Himself: He is a victim of having a false identity. He believes he is a major of the army and not a teacher.
  • Stern Teacher: He is shown to be stern to the students of the school, scolding them for not being good students who study diligently.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: He is shown struggling with trying to get his military father to accept his job as a teacher.

    Miss Niken 

Niken Astari Indah

A teacher at Atma and Raya’s school that teaches mathematics. She also opens counseling sessions after school.


  • A Day in the Limelight: She has her own story in A Space for the Unbound: Broken Memories, a webtoon published before the game is released which tells her life in Loka City and how she met Pram.
  • Commonality Connection: She bonds with her coworker Pram over the fact that both of them notice the strange things in their surroundings.
  • Horrible Honeymoon: In the webtoon, Pram dies in a storm when he and Niken are going to Bali for their honeymoon. Niken survived, and she is broken by the tragedy.

    Mr. Budi 

Mr. Budi

The owner of Karunia Djaya general store. He is Erik’s father and Lulu’s uncle.


  • Don't Make Me Take My Belt Off!: He loves his son Erik, but he won’t hesitate to discipline him if he’s being a bad boy.
  • Not Himself: He is the third and last victim of Raya’s brainwashing. Instead of having a false identity, he only forgets about Lulu and gets more violent than his usual self.
  • Tough Love: His parenting style. He cares for his son but he often scolds Erik so the latter can behave better.

    Madam Puspa 

Madam Puspa

A Botanist that is acquainted with Lulu. She used to own a fireworks company before it burned down.


  • Fatal Fireworks: Her fireworks company burned down in an accident.
  • Green Thumb: She is a botanist.
  • Not Herself: She is a victim of having a false identity. Instead of a botanist, she becomes a Pyromaniac obsessed with burning everything into ashes.
  • Pyromaniac: Her false identity. Before snapping out of it she is obsessed with burning everything.

    Sensei 

Soebandi

A civil servant Atma meets at the Arcade playing Future Fighter. He is skilled in martial arts and teaches Atma how to fight. He used to own a martial arts dojo before becoming a civil servant.


    Doomsayer 

Doomsayer

A man wearing sunglasses who sells expensive gemstones.


  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": He is only known as the Doomsayer.
  • Parental Neglect: Doomsayer's son left him because he only cared about getting more money. After completing his Spacedive, he declares that he doesn't want the money and leaves to find his son.
  • Sinister Shades: He wears sunglasses and tricks people into buying his wares.
  • Snake Oil Salesman: The Doomsayer sells overpriced gemstones claiming it has the power to avoid disasters.

    Tumini 

Tumini

The pastry chef of Ria Cafe. She makes the Black Forest Gateau that Raya wants.


  • Supreme Chef: She is known as the best pastry chef at the cafe.
  • "Well Done, Daughter!" Girl: More like “granddaughter”. She is struggling to get approval from her grandfather, the owner of Ria Cafe.

    Nirmala’s Parents 

Nirmala's Parents

Nirmala’s father and mother. Her mother appears in Chapter 0 being concerned about Nirmala. Her father doesn’t appear in person but he speaks a few lines in Chapter 0.


  • Abusive Parents: Nirmala’s father is abusive towards his daughter for not doing well at school.
  • Good Parents: In contrast to the father, Nirmala’s mother cares about her daughter’s wellbeing.
  • Grew a Spine: After the incident at the river, Nirmala’s father starts scolding her daughter for being useless, then starts calling his own wife useless too. This caused Nirmala’s mother to snap and hit her husband. It’s later implied that they divorced shortly after this.
