    Main Story
General
  • As genuinely terrifying they may be, the Overblots and subsequent takedowns are absolutely this.
  • YMMV, but for someone who was basically kidnapped into a unfamiliar world and is now constantly put into dangerous circumstances thanks to the magicians around them Yuu seems to be taking their situation in stride while many in their position might be nearing the Despair Event Horizon.
Prologue
  • Grim and Yuu managed to crash the entrance ceremony of the most prestigious magic academy in Twisted Wonderland, complete with leaving both Crowley and the Dark Mirror completely baffled as well as Grim causing an absolute ruckus with his fire magic before being reined in by Riddle. For all intents and purposes, that's pretty impressive.
    • To add perspective to this, Happy Beans Day: Lyreless Brawl has Vil mention that there is never a normal entrance ceremony initiation and in the previous year, Floyd caused a commotion over picking on and provoking Riddle and using his own Unique Magic to avoid and undo Riddle's "Off With Your Head". Grim and Yuu crashing the ceremony, the latter unintentionally, triumphs over the previous entrance ceremony shenanigans and misadventures.
  • With the threat of expulsion and being left to their own devices looming over them, Yuu taking the initiative to pull Ace, Deuce, and Grim together to defeat the overblotted dwarf and take the magic stone, coming up with a plan to first lure the dwarf away from the mine then coordinating the others' attacks so that they will deal maximum damage. Not bad for the magicless beast tamer in training.
Heartslabyul:
  • Absolutely fed up with Riddle's tyranny, Ace and Deuce decide to challenge Riddle to a duel in hopes of taking away his position of dorm leader despite being novice magicians going against a teen prodigy. It ends as expected with Riddle curbstomping them in less than five seconds, but since no one else (not even Trey) was willing to stand up to him Ace and Deuce showed they got guts.
  • Even when the battle is over, Ace refused to stand down and punched Riddle square in the face after he insulted Yuu when they tried reasoning with him, following it up with a scathing "The Reason You Suck" Speech where Ace spells it out that while Riddle indeed had a terrible childhood, it doesn't mean he gets to treat people like he was or worse. This helps to motivate other Heartslabyul students to call Riddle out, although things escalate when one of them hits Riddle with an egg.
  • When Riddle is a hair away from killing Ace, Trey finally puts his foot down and uses "Doodle Suit" to overwrite the properties of Riddle's attacks so he can't harm anyone.
  • Credit where it's due, Riddle was able to defeat his predecessor within one week of entering Night Raven College and made sure that no one in the dorm got behind in their studies. It's clear that, as long as his personal issues remain in check, Riddle has the makings of a true Heartslabyul dorm leader.
Savanaclaw:
  • Minor and possibly foolish, but Leona and the other dorm leaders (sans Idia) objecting to having Malleus removed from the Magift tournament for being way too powerful of an opponent, reasoning that by doing they'd be admitting they don't have the wits or willpower to take him on and depriving themselves of the chance to even try doing so. Of course, Leona had an alternative motive for spearheading the objection and Malleus does end up creaming everybody in the end...
    • For reference, no one has been able to score as much as a point against the Diasomnia team, they rack up at minimum 100 points per game, and Malleus is responsible for roughly 90% of Diasomnia's total scores. It's no wonder Crowley proposed inducting him into the hall of fame a year early.
  • Yuu being able to pick up pretty quickly that the accidents happening around campus were connected and not just coincidences. They are also able to figure out that it was Ruggie who was using his unique magic after Jamil described how his accident happened and remembering how Ruggie tricked Grim into trading his deluxe lunch for a hot dog bun.
  • Jack, after seeing that Leona and Ruggie won't try to compete in the tournament without cheating or come up with a solid plan with the great powers they and the rest of the dorm possess, deciding to work with the protagonists and cementing his place as Savanaclaw's Token Good Teammate. And this is with knowing that he could possibly become a target in their scheme.
  • Riddle coming up with the plan to stop Leona and Ruggie by notifying Diasomnia of Leona's plans then having Cater not only duplicate himself but take the forms of Malleus and the rest of the Diasomnia team. Leona thinks he won when he has Ruggie use the audience members to stampede their opponents, then Lilia, Sebek, and Silver show up...
  • Leona pulling a No-Sell on Riddle when he tries using "Off With Your Head" on him twice, first by using protective magic and then through sheer willpower.
  • Savanaclaw getting it's just desserts by the other teams, including players that got hurt in its scheme, ripping it a new one during the magift tournament and landing Leona and Ruggie in the infirmary. Bonus in that Crowley was going to disqualify the dorm until the other teams used Leona's exact reasoning from above to keep them in the game, arguing that by doing so they'd be losing the chance to get revenge. Leona's reasoning comes to bite him in the ass again when the teams also point out that since it's a game, they will be allowed to use their magic to beat Savanaclaw down, which is how Leona and his goons got away with beating up Ace, Deuce, Grim, and Yuu earlier on.
Octavinelle:
  • Azul's first big scene in Chapter 3 puts his manipulation skills as well as his prowess in magic on display. Knowing that many of the student body are slackers Azul convinces 225 of them (including the main trio) to sign contracts to help boost their test scores, as long as they can earn places in the top 50 slots. When they inevitably fail thanks to the sheer volume of similar high scores, Azul uses the terms of the contract to not only strip his victims of their most valuable magic but force them into obedience through sea anemones magically placed on their heads. All 225 of them. Simultaneously.
    • How does Azul "help" the students? He studied over a century's worth of Night Raven exams and compiled a homemade study guide as opposed to stealing the answers, thus keeping Azul in line with school rules and making him look like a benevolent classmate trying to help others.
    • Best of all? Azul does all of this under legal terms, an example being how he didn't have to notify his victims of all the other contracts because of the confidentiality clause and prevented the truth from spreading through non-disclosure agreements. In addition, Azul uses these tactics as well as blackmail (correctly deducing that Night Raven, for all its prestige, hasn't given rise to many great magicians as of late) to swindle Crowley himself so that he can operate his lounge so he can snatch even more students into contracts that in the end will enslave them. Shady as all hell? Not a shadow of a doubt. Impressive? Absolutely, to the point that Yuu and Jack are both impressed by their adversary.
  • Yuu deciding to enter a contracted bet with Azul when he refuses to set the "indentured" students free, putting both their claim to Ramshackle Dorm as well as their own freedom at stake to do so. Jade and Floyd even admit that Yuu's got some guts doing this.
  • Yuu and Grim managing to beat some Savanaclaw students in a fight in order to take temporary residence when Jade and Floyd kick them out of Ramshackle Dorm during their deal.
  • Yuu getting a chance to really shine by pulling off a flawless Batman Gambit and breaking all of Azul's contracts, even those not connected to the sea anemone incident. After realizing the contracts can be physically destroyed, they enlist Savanaclaw to create a ruckus at Mostro Lounge, allowing Ruggie to swipe the key to the vault when Azul wasn't looking and Leona to use "King's Roar" to dust the contracts. Yuu then has their group try once more to get Azul's picture from the museum, not only managing to succeed while the museum was closed and guarded but also lure Jade and Floyd away from Mostro Lounge, depriving Azul of his top men when he needed them.
    • Crosses with Funny, but Yuu securing Leona and his dorm's cooperation through threatening to make sure Leona will never get a good night's sleep again if they lose and using the second night to give an example. Leona actually praises Yuu for this, calling them a more dastardly villain than Azul.
    • When Yuu's group finds that the museum was closed, Ace distracts one of the guards by pretending to be a land dweller interested in merfolk society and keeps the conversation going long enough for everyone to get in and out. Deuce even comments on how easily Ace is able to lie and act completely convincing.
    • Even when the group gets caught by another guard they come out on top, one line implying that Jack might have knocked the guard out. And since the contracts were destroyed, Ace and Deuce got their powers back and were able to put up a real fight against the twins.
Scarabia:
  • Yuu and Grim managing to escape the Scarabia dorm by digging their way out with a spoon, which helped them reach Octavinelle and tell Azul and the twins about the trouble in the dorm and recruit their help.
  • Jamil's scheme to take over the dorm and oust Kalim from the position of dorm leader getting exposed is nothing short of awesome.
    • Beforehand, Azul made a contract with Floyd to temporarily use Bind the Heart, effectively preventing Jamil from using Snake Whisper to hypnotize Azul.
    • What's more, Jamil's scheme is exposed to the rest of the students because he, without even knowing it, was being recorded by the Octavinelle trio, alerting everyone on the plot to remove Kalim from his role as dorm leader so he could take it for himself.
  • Why wasn't Kalim able to notice that he was acting an utter 180 of his normal self? Before Jamil would hypnotize Kalim, he would bring up that Scarabia is scoring dead last in relation to all the dorms, something that is partly Kalim's fault since their students are constantly being distracted by lavish banquets instead of focusing on their studies. While Kalim's mind was frustrated and vulnerable Jamil would work his magic, therefore making Kalim believe the extreme actions Jamil made him take were his own decisions. Equal parts brilliant and nightmarish.
  • Kalim gets a couple moments too when he uses "Oasis Maker" to save himself and his allies from getting seriously hurt from Jamil's initial attack and later using it to help return to the dorm. Azul is even impressed by this, even if it's mainly so that it could be turned into a source of income.
    • And then, instead of disgracing Jamil and kicking him to the curb, Kalim takes his share of responsibility in their situation and forgives Jamil. After all that Jamil did that takes a 24-karat heart of gold, not to mention while he had all rights not to Kalim taking the pacifistic route might have saved him from facing more of Jamil's resentment as well as saved their relationship.
    • While Kalim is clearly not the greatest dorm leader, some credit is due for being able to garner real respect from his dorm by virtue of being a genuinely kind and generous person by taking time to listen to the students' problems and throwing the greatest parties Night Raven College has ever witnessed. If it wasn't for that, Jamil wouldn't have had to of gone to the lengths he did to try bringing Kalim down.
    • There's also the part where Jade tries to use "Shock the Heart" on Kalim in order to get information out of him, but Kalim pulls a No-Sell. Not only does this now make "Shock the Heart" completely unusable on Kalim since Jade said he can only use this spell on a given person once, Jade also admits that in order to deflect it the first time a person needs to have very strong willpower.
Pomefiore:
  • Deuce and Epel successfully beating off the punks that tried to steal their magical wheel.
  • Deuce fully awakening his unique magic, Bet The Limit, which ends Vil's rampage right before any irreversible damage could be done. What makes this especially noteworthy is that in order for Deuce's spell to even work he has to attack at a power equal to his opponent and Vil, a powerful magician in his own right who had earlier served Deuce's ass on a platter, was in overblot at the time.
  • After all of the ups and downs throughout the VDC training camp, including dealing with a severe overblot very shortly before showtime, Vil and the Night Raven College team pulls off a stunning performance of "Absolutely Beautiful" that garners the approval of all their peers, brings them neck to neck with Neige and Royal Sword Academy, and momentarily gives Vil the spot of "fairest in the land". And while Vil shows off his singing skills, including holding a long note, special mention goes to Jamil who gets a solo rap during a portion of the song.
  • While the moment has proven to be quite divisive, Rook sticking to his guns (or bows) and choosing to give the win to RSA after objectively evaluating the two groups and managing to do so without any bias. And while his bandmates are upset about this, they later come to agree with the decision once Rook explains his reasoning.
Ignihyde:
  • In a dark variant, the Charon forces attack on Night Raven College and abduction of the overblot victims. With the exception of Leona and Azul who surrendered peacefully, the force is able to easily overpower each target without as much of a scratch on themselves (although the anti-magic armor did help).
    • Of the overblotters, special mention goes to Riddle who stood his ground till the end and lasted the longest in a fight, being brought down after two shots of fully charged beam shots.
  • Rook using "I See You" in order to track Vil and the other kidnapped students to the Isle of Lamentation and S.T.Y.X.'s headquarters, being able to exploit the weaknesses of the Charon forces' transportation to bypass the anti-magic shield. And when Rook, Epel, and Yuu get caught by S.T.Y.X. (because Rook loudly announced their arrival), Rook goes into full Refuge in Audacity to explain that he merely brought Vil his skin care products so that he could once again fly his spell under the organization's radar to help his dorm head. And it works!
  • Epel awakening his unique magic, Sleep Kiss, when it looks like Yuu and a S.T.Y.X. agent are going to be killed by Ortho-controlled Charon agents.
  • Once they are free, the overblotters separate into three groups to travel the twelve layers of Tartarus in order to stop Idia and Ortho's plan of releasing the Phantoms and destroying the world. Each group is able to beat Ortho's "game" by solving puzzles to gather the identification cards needed to proceed, battling the Phantoms while at the same time saving the S.T.Y.X. agents of whom Ortho used as bait, and charging up the Spears in order to thoroughly defeat the boss Phantoms. Bonus for Riddle/Azul and Leona/Jamil for doing so while bickering at each other.
  • Once the overblotted Shroud brothers are defeated as well as knowing the consequences, Vil dives straight into the Underworld in order to retrieve both Grim and Idia.
Diasomnia
  • Credit where credit's due: While Malleus had given numerous examples of his power throughout the series, this chapter shows just how insane his scope truly is. He curbstomps all of the NRC students and faculty present at Lilia's party, he uses "Fae of Maleficence" to put the entirety of Sage Island into Forced Sleep, he's able to control (nearly) every single one of those people's dreams to create perfect scenarios as well as enter whoever's dream he chooses, he can draw additional energy from the natural world around him, he can control what is called "Domain Magic" which allows him to bend everything within his reach to his will including time, and he's planning on slowly expanding his domain to cover the entirety of Twisted Wonderland. And one more thing... he's in overblot during all of this and yet is able to (at this point) maintain total control of himself as opposed to his predecessors.
  • Ortho being quick enough to transfer himself into a backup network so that he'd bypass the affects of Malleus' sleep spell. He also uses the connection between Idia's tablet to STYX's satellites in order to inform their parents about what has happened.
  • Mrs. Shroud and the other STYX engineers working two days straight to design Ortho a brand new, anti-magic "Cerberus Gear" that will allow him to physically go into Malleus' domain without being ensnared by the spell.
  • Silver, despite his heartbreak in doing so and knowing that he'd be no match against him, having the courage to stand up to Malleus and was ready to outright fight when the mad prince threatened him. And while Ortho had used his robotic make up to his advantage, Silver is the only organic person able to escape Malleus' spell all on his own and is able to evacuate his group into another dream before Malleus can trap them.
  • Despite Lilia (currently trapped in his dream) being leagues ahead of them in battle prowess, Silver and Sebek coordinate an attack that rips the general's mask right off his face and convinces him to let the group accompany him.
  • General Lilia becoming a One-Man Army and taking down an entire troop of Silver Owl soldiers in order to take their campsite for his troop to rest at. Lilia, Baul, and the rest of their army then proceed to take on and defeat multiple groups of Silver Owls while on their way to their enemy's fortress.
  • Silver using light magic in order to combat the darkness when Sebek unwittingly draws it to the group.
  • Lilia, despite not remembering who he is, protecting Silver from a damaging blow when they arrive at the fortress.
  • Very dark variant, but the Silver Owls managed to trick Lilia, a legendary and powerful fairy general whose had centuries of war experience under his belt, into leading his troops to a decoy fortress while they lead an attack on Princess Melleanor's castle.
  • While it ends with her death, Princess Melleanor choosing to face the Silver Owls head on in order to protect her unborn son.
  • Mixes with Heartwarming is Lilia, after many years of traveling the world searching for a solution and having to do so in secret, managing to hatch Malleus and save the Draconia bloodline by sacrificing part of his life span and magic. Unfortunately for him, the Senate did not share the sentiment.

    Events
Endless Halloween Night:
  • When facing a possessed Jade, Riddle uses his memory of their first meeting to identify him based on the position of the skunk stripe on Jade's hair.
  • Rook, Trey and Sebek use their Halloween appearances to attempt to gather information on the ghosts' goals and enter the castle. Their infiltration attempt fails, but they succeeded in getting more information.
Glorious Masquerade:
  • Credit where it's due, Rollo having the know-how to cultivate the magic draining Crimson Flowers that were able to momentarily immobilize Malleus of all people. Said flowers sweeping through Fleur City was also as impressive as it was terrorizing.
    • Rollo using his unique magic "Dark Fire" to become a human flame during his confrontation with the Night Raven students as well as his Nerves of Steel which earned him some respect from his opponents.
  • When Malleus finds out the invitation to the City of Flowers was a trap set by Rollo to catch him in the Crimson Flowers, he flies into a bout of rage, lashing out at the flowers with his magic to the point of withering them completely. Equal parts awesome and nightmarish.
  • Epel gets an awesome moment using his farming experience to explain the withering of the Crimson Flowers.
  • During the race to the belltower of Noble Bell College, there are plenty of awesome moments to speak of:
    • To save Riddle from getting caught by the Crimson Flowers, Epel uses Sleep Kiss on him, effectively protecting him while Epel continued the fight.
    • Doubles as Funny, but Ruggie and Jamil, being the manipulators they are, using their Unique Magic to recruit Noble Bell College students to help them deal with the Crimson Flowers while also trying to avoid getting caught by the flowers themselves.
    • Azul reflecting Rollo's magic back at him using Deuce's Unique Magic Bet The Limit, after having made a contract before heading for the belltower.
  • After all is said and done, Malleus, Azul, and Idia perform a song, "Make a Wish", at the masquerade while the others come in and dance. It is exactly as awesome as it sounds.
Lost in the Book with Stitch:
  • When Gantu first shows up and demands the teens to hand over Stitch to him, Floyd and Lilia had been the first to defend Stitch and keep their stance to fight Gantu. The fact that neither feared him despite Gantu being way gigantic than them stands volumes.
  • Later, Gantu decided to put the group in a Hostage Situation by kidnapping Grim and demand that they hand over Stitch, for real this time. Gantu is caught off guard that not only do the Night Raven College students refuse, they end up taking a third option, that is, beat Gantu and his Robots and take Grim back by force. And they succeed.
