Pre-release trailers
- The very first teaser trailer for the game looks like an opening sequence to a Bond movie, only with less dancing women and more explosions, set to a Softer and Slower Cover of Prodigy's Firestarter. It's not particularly serious, but that only makes it better.
- The gameplay reveal trailer: Stunts with Cool Cars? Check! Lots of guns and shootouts (including with miniguns)? Check! A LOT of Stuff Blowing Up? CHECK!
- The Choose Your Own Chaos interactive trailer, demonstrating the gameplay variety, has Rico go on a rampage of creative vandalism across Medici, moving between points of interest by wingsuiting, planes, sports cars, and motorcycles, taking down Di Ravello's propaganda, blowing up petrol stations and gas holders, destroying a bridge, and finishing with taking out the entire Vigilator Sud radar installation.
- The fact that the trailer shows Rico launch a car off a ramp, latch onto the bottom of a helicopter, and fire a rocket launcher at a bridge is something that you actually can pull off in the game.
General gameplay mechanics
- As in Just Cause 2, the gameplay mechanics are built to facilitate Awesome Moments in regular gameplay - and thanks to Sequel Escalation, now Rico can star in such moments practically every ten seconds. Some basic tactics and/or ways to pass the time in the game include:
- Using the wingsuit for flying through tunnels, hugging the terrain, or escaping the bad guys by jumping off the nearest cliff and wingsuiting away.
- Using the parachute to rain Death from Above on the unfortunate Mooks, or destroying Di Ravello's property while doing flybys over it.
- Anything involving the grappling hook, be it climbing tall structures like Spider-Man, dive-kicking into enemies, slamming enemies into eachother with the retract function of the double-tethers, throwing people and objects off cliffs, pulling down Di Ravello statues with vehicles, making said statues hit themselves in the face, smashing helicopters into the ground, or dislodging massive fuel tanks with several tethers to cause spectacular fireballs.
- Anything involving explosions and C4, because any explosion in an area sufficiently dense with objects is liable to cause chains of other explosions. You can also stick C4 charges to pretty much anything, including people and vehicles, which you can then toss at things with the double-tethers... and then you can get a gear mod that turns your C4 into rocket boosters.
- Many possible vehicle stunts, such as jumping from vehicle to vehicle during a high-speed chase while shooting at their occupants, jumping cars into destructible objects with the turbo-jump, hanging under helicopters with your grapple while peppering the enemies below with gunfire, and hijacking jets in midair. Especially fun when combined with abovementioned grapple tricks and sticky explosives.
- In the Sky Fortress DLC, your wingsuit is upgraded into a weaponized Jet Pack.
Story
- During the final mission in Insula Fonte, Di Ravello launches a Bavarium missile at Baia. How does Rico stop it? By RIDING IT LIKE A VEHICLE, HOOKING IT, AND PULLING IT SO IT HITS CENTRAL COMMAND FOR THE ISLAND. Even outside of normal gameplay, Rico Rodriguez is a badass.
