Fridge Brilliance

  • Having a fictional sunny Mediterranean nation might be a weird setting for a third game about toppling dictators... until you realize that said nation is meant to be an amalgamation of Portugal, Spain, Italy and Greece, all countries that have been under fascist dictatorships at some point during the 20th century.
  • Given the Mediterranean Scenery Porn and sunny weather, you just wish you had some sort of music station you can cruise along to whenever you get in a car, until you realize that this is a dictatorship that has tight control over every aspect of the nation, including the radio waves.
  • Going off from the Fridge Horror page from Just Cause 2, Rico blowing up installations like power plants and the like was seen as destroying the infrastructure, and thus depriving civilians of it. This game mitigates that Fridge Horror as, A) virtually every major instalation is only supplying Di Ravello instead of the population anyways, and B) the Rebels state that they'll rebuild whatever was destroyed once Di Ravello and his militias are kicked out of the region.
  • It might seem odd that the rebels would bother occupying military bases after Rico has demolished the fuel tanks, generators, and pretty much any other useful infrastructure... until you realise that without that infrastructure, the military has no reason to risk trying to recapture the base. It's entirely possible that the rebels only need the bases and outposts so they'll have a safe place to house their troops and store weapons and vehicles.
    • Mario also says they're going to rebuild everything which has been destroyed. The rebels are probably occupying the former bases with the intention of restoring them to full functioning order.
  • In the final mission cutscene of the Sky Fortress DLC, Eden says "You hear that, Rico? That is the sound of inevitability. That is the sound of your defeat. Goodbye, Mister Rodriguez." This blatant Matrix reference is actually foreshadowing of Eden's nature as an AI, as is her comment about Rico being a "virus."
  • The Mech Land Assault DLC introduces Insula Lacrima, a new region of Medici run by the Black Hand and used as a prison. Lacrima is Medician/Interlingua for "Tear", giving it the name of "Tear Island", or "Island of Tears". Considering the Black Hand's methods and the amount of prisoners there, it's not that hard to deduce why the place would be given that particular name.
  • As mentioned in the YMMV section, there were a percentage of players whom were disappointed that the final battle at the end of the game is Rico taking on a high tech helicopter with a timed force field, because Rico has already taken on many high tech tanks and helicopters with timed force fields beforehand during the final segments of the game. However, the Big Bad not having some secret, shocking military weapon at the end of the game makes perfect sense, when Rico and the Resistance spent the whole game destroying his ability to make more weapons and his military hold on the whole region. To expect him to have some super-powerful weapon at that point, instead of using the best thing he can find while trying to escape and save himself is unrealistic.
  • Rico's primary opponents are the Di Ravello Militia, or DRM. In the real world, DRM stands for "Digital Rights Management." DRM has been the downfall of many a video game in recent years, much to gamers' chagrin. It's impossible to be fighting someone with that acronym and not think it's a subtle Take That! at certain corporations' actions.
