- Retro apparently played all previous Donkey Kong games in preparation to create this one, and the C.E.O. himself had a hand in making the original Donkey Kong Country.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
- Dixie Kong becoming playable again goes without saying.
- David Wise, the composer of the first two games, returning to produce the music.
- Cranky Kong will be a playable character for the first time in a mainstream Donkey Kong title.
- Not only did the January 2018 Nintendo Direct Mini announce that the game is coming to the Nintendo Switch, but also Funky Kong will be playable in this version.

- Fans rejoiced everywhere when the Country and Land trios of games came to Wii U and 3DS Virtual Consoles in October 2014 and February 2015 for Japan, Europe and America respectively after a mysterious delisting of the Country games from the Wii in 2010 caused fans to fear they would never get re-released.
- And on April 1st, Donkey Kong 64 was released on the Virtual Console, skipping the Wii and going straight for the Wii U. It's also completely intact alleviating any fears of losing Jetpac.
- After being by far one of the most long and highly requested characters to be playable, and after a decade of fleeting hope due to his absence from the video game scene in general; on August 8th, 2018, King K. Rool was revealed to be a newcomer for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. To say that fans were happy would be a great understatement.
