Final Episode - The Adjudicator

So now that Meteor 3 (also known as Septuagint) has awakened, humanity is facing extermination instead of assimilation. Not much of an improvement, really. We quickly make our way back to Aidoneus, where Septuagint has started growing giant crystals and is cranking out copies of DC and EFA mechs. Gilliam speculates that the mechs and pilots are copies of the troops it has consumed, meaning they will suffer the same fate if they are killed. Note: don't get killed by this thing.

Still, none of them are going to retreat now that they've come this far, and humanity will be destroyed if its influence spreads beyond the island. Everyone restates their intentions to defeat it, and the final battle commences. Septuagint doesn't really get its own theme in this game, but I love it all the same.

The level 80 Septuagint's the only real threat here, the mooks surrounding it are cannon fodder. The power of its attacks isn't all that high, but it's got pretty good accuracy and its Omega Wave has a range of 14 squares. If any of my more fragile units get hit by that, they're done for. So, first a bit of grinding mooks to build up Will, then on to this thing itself.

I've never used them before, but this seems like a good moment to use Jam Grenades and Chaff Grenades, and if I keep this up, Septuagint's stats will be sufficiently reduced to have everyone survive this battle. I have Leona and Latooni move in quickly, fire their grenades and then I bring in the others. Fortunately, the tiles around Septuagint also provide some degree of HP/EN regen, so I'll be able to survive this almost indefinitely if I have to.

And "indefinitely" would almost be a good descriptor for how this is going. He's not that strong, but Septuagint's HP/EN regen is insane, and to even make a dent in his shields I have to use EN missiles every turn. It's a matter of constantly resupplying, but at least units can carry two missiles of the same type at once. About five turns later, his EN finally reaches zero, and I can start dealing serious damage.

He's got a really long health bar, too, and even my finishers are only chipping off a little bit of damage every time. Within a few turns, though, I get him down to 60%...

SEPTUAGINT: Damage at 60%. Enemy agility exceeding estimation. Activate emergency program...delete civilization.

He spawns additional ships, which provide a momentary distraction at best while I keep hacking at him. They can't really do anything apart from perhaps making me waste a bit of ammo, and if this is the best it can do, I've already won. Of course, that kind of hubris would come back to bite me.

SEPTUAGINT: Implement the retrieved living cores. Begin restoration of Judecca...

Oh dammit, this is going to turn into a double boss, isn't it. Still, I've got 5 turns left before it has finished rebuilding Judecca, so if I can finish it within that time I should be fine. Time to go all-out again: Daunt it as much as possible, have every attack use Valor, and use Zeal/Enable to make Septuagint eat no less than 3 TK Burst Slashes in one turn. Daunt didn't help too much against this thing because it recovered its 150 Will almost instantly, but every little bit helps. And what do you know, I actually succeeded in depleting his health before Judecca appeared!

SEPTUAGINT: Danger...civ...il...ization...destroyer...of...order...danger...dan...ger...unable...to...re...port...I...am...the...last...

Boom, there it goes. With the spectacular destruction of Meteor 3, Neviim has completely shut down, and Operation SRW is officially over. Now, it's time to watch the ending and see where everyone goes from here!

It's confirmed that Levi Tolar was a brainwashed Mai Kobayashi, and although Aya still grieves for her and Ingram, she's going to move on with her life. There wasn't really any way to free their minds, so no use worrying about that.

Viletta explains that Ingram was an agent of those who built Neviim, made to awaken when a suitable race was found. However, for some reason Ingram was created with an unstable personality that resisted Judecca's control, and he created Viletta as an equally uncontrollable clone of himself. No one has any information on the ones who built Neviim, except that they are known as the Balmarians. Personally, I'm suspecting that Ingram's role as a Time Diver had something to do with his rebellion.

Gilliam is going to return to the intelligence bureau and wants Viletta to join him, but Viletta has been given her own orders by Ingram to join the SRX Team. They still agree to help each other out as necessary, and Gilliam will keep the secret of Viletta's nature safe.

Sean and Lefina will be taking the Hiryu Custom back to Icarus Base in the asteroid belt, where they'll help to build a galactic defense net against future threats. Sean will come back some time to drink with Daitetsu, though.

Sanger and Elzam are MIA since the end of the battle, and Excellen assumes they're training in the mountains somewhere. You've been watching way too many shonen series, Excellen.

Bullet and Kusuha are now officially a couple, even if he still doesn't want to admit it, and Tasuku is pushed into admitting his love to Leona, because otherwise he'll never see her again. He doesn't do too well in that regard, but fortunately Leona doesn't care, and she accepts. And so she leaves on the Hiryu, together with the rest of the Octo Squad.

KATINA: When I get my own mech, I'll come back to brag about it!

RUSSEL: (First, she took Kyosuke's mech and colored it. Now, she's taking it with her...)

Daitetsu sees off the Hiryu, thanking them for their instrumental effort in Operation SRW, but Lefina notes that the credit goes to all the soldiers. He agrees with this sentiment, and sends the Hiryu a final signal wishing them a good voyage. He's glad he'll be able to see his grandchild again soon, and makes the Hagane set course back to the Far East Brigade base, where Sakae and Laker are waiting.

They themselves also await the arrival of the Kurogane, which is a little weird for them since it's a former enemy ship. A lot of people switched sides during this conflict, so naturally you're gonna have enemies who became friends and vice versa.

Irm meets up with his father and gets a surprise visit from Ring, who came along at the request of Yuan, who came to see Rio. Ring is ready to listen to Irm's affair excuses, and Ryoto meets Rio's father. Ryoto wants to get hired by Mao Industries, so this is the perfect moment to introduce himself, even if Yuan finds himself himself in the strange situation of suddenly facing an unbidden job applicant. Ryoto could just return home, but that would mean his family would make him take over their karate dojo, which he really has no interest in.

RIO: Why didn't you tell me about this before?

RYOTO: I-It's not like I intended to...

RIO: Ryoto, we'll have a karate match once we get to the Moon!

Not that she knows any karate, but she can't stand him being better than her at anything. Their relationship is gonna work out just fine, I tell you. At any rate, thanks to some convincing by Rob, Yuan accepts and Ryoto is now going to Mao Industries to help with the development of their mass-production line.

Garnet and Giado are finally ready to settle down and get married, and although they were willing to be an adoptive family for Latooni, she refused because she intended to go look for the other members of The School (Ouka, Arado and Seolla) so it was best to stay here.

The ATX Team is going back to their "home", Langley Base, along with Rishu and Marion. They'll need new assignments, however, because projects ATX and SRX have officially been frozen. They were considered problematic and expensive, and since Operation SRW has completely depleted the EFA's stockpile, they're gonna focus on mass-producing PTs.

Fortunately their own mechs won't be scrapped, but the development of the Grungust Type 3 and Huckebein Mk III will have to wait until some point in the future. Marion is still undeterred, and starts rattling off the plans she has for new mechs, until she's brought back to reality by Kirk and Rob.

Masaki once again leaves Earth to continue his hunt for Shu Shirakawa, and Lune is going back to space. She hasn't really decided where yet, maybe Jupiter or the Moon. Now Ryusei has started noticing that everyone's splitting up, but Lune assures him it's not a cause for concern since they'll all come back right away if anything happens.

EXCELLEN: We'll be here within 30 minutes of your phone call.

KYOSUKE: We're not a pizza delivery company.

MASAKI: I'm gonna miss you two and your comedy act.

The SRX Team is on leave while the R-Series is being fixed, so Aya thinks Ryusei should go see his mother. We haven't heard of her in a while, so let's see if she's doing any better. Gilliam and Viletta decided to do Ryusei a favor, so she's not tied to the military hospital anymore.

Rai went to visit Cattleya's grave, and Shine knows that's where she'll meet him, presumably because of her precognitive abilities. She has a meeting with the Federal Emergency Council to attend to, but Midcrid told her to arrive two hours late anyway for security reasons.

And indeed, Rai does show up, and has a little talk with him. Thus, she learns that the F in his name stands for "Fujiwara", Cattleya's last name, that he took on when he left the House of Branstein.

Ryusei arrives at his house, and finds a farewell letter from Kusuha in the mailbox, explaining that she decided to go work as a nurse at Langley Base, and tells him to take care of himself.

RYUSEI: (You too, Kusuha. And good luck, everyone...we'll see each other again.)

YUKIKO: Ryu...! You're back...!

RYUSEI: As promised.

YUKIKO: I'm so happy to see you...

RYUSEI: Me too...I'm home, Ma.

And thus ends my liveblog of Super Robot Wars Original Generation 1 . It's been an interesting experience, and people regularly told me things I didn't know about the game yet. A big thanks to my readers for that.

However, given at the pace this has been going, I don't know if I'll make another liveblog any time soon. Life has been interrupting things too often to keep a consistent schedule, though it might work if I made shorter installments.

As a final unanswered question, does anyone know if New Game Plus does anything in this game? It doesn't seem to change anything, though I know it does in other SRW games.

First, the time limit is to avoid a non-stantard game over. If you fail to defeat the final boss in time, you actually see it summoning THREE Judeccas. Also, IIRC, since you got all skill points, that version of the final boss only use ammo attacks. If you are patient, you can make it run out of ammo. ^^

And finally, to get new game plus, you must finish both storyline before getting access to it. At first you'll only get something like 25% of the money and PP you got in your walkthrough but eventually you'll get 100% of it.

Thanks for writing this fascinating liveblog. It takes serious dedication to earn all the skill points and I applaud you for it. I always skip a few, even when going after Septuagint.

If you have no plans on doing OG 2, I've been itching to play it again and I've always wanted to write one of these. Unfortunately, I have no way of getting screenshots off my DS and a liveblog is rather dull without photos.

If you're going to do OG 2, I'll definitely be reading your liveblog. As for me, I downloaded a ROM of the game and ran it on a GBA emulator. Worked like a charm.

I've started my OG 2 live blog here: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/lb_i.php?lb_id=13696894360B41600500

It looks like I screwed up with the Subject thing and it's not showing up on the page for this series. I would like to finish the game before Project X Zone comes out.
