** The Master Hand and Crazy Hand team up fight in Brawl in Classic mode can sometimes be this since it's only able to be fought on hard mode or higher and one has to reach the last fight within 9 minutes or less. Plus the giant character fights and free for all before the final fight can drain you of your lives, especially if you're playing a character that can get knocked around easily such as Sonic, worst part is you get a game over no matter at what point you're at even if you do make it to the fight you'll have to start over from the beginning of Classic Mode if you want another shot at fighting Master Hand and Crazy Hand together fight.

This alone would not be enough to warrant this trope, but [[spoiler: when he turns Ness into a trophy]]? What cements this trope is that [[spoiler: he used Lucas as bait to get Ness when he couldn't before]], and when [[spoiler: he laughs at Ness's trophy]].

** Another for Pokémon Trainer: Type effectiveness. Yes, it's in Brawl. The three pokémon are knocked back a little more/less by attacks of their respective weaknesses/resistances. This creates two problems: first, no other Pokémon is affected by this system, so Charizard isn't strong against Lucario, Lucario isn't strong against Jigglypuff, et cetera, making it a pointless detail. Second, considering this is is only based on fire-water-grass, this puts Ivysaur at a huge disadvantage because about half of the characters in Brawl have fire attacks, and it's too easy on Charizard because there are only 3 water attacks, one being from Kirby with Squirtle's ability.

** Most characters get a moment or two, but this is the ''{{Kirby}}'' gang's show. Not at all surprising, however, considering Masahiro Sakurai was the ''creator'' of Kirby. And that he voices King Dedede, as revealed in the last Dojo update.
*** Many fans consider this justified considering how much effort was put into ''avoiding'' this in previous installments. Metaknight and Dedede were intended to be in the roster ever since the original ''Smash Bros.'', but when the N64's game capacity issues or strict deadlines came up, they were always the first characters to be cut. Then there's also how Kirby had been nerfed in ''Melee'' practically to the point of a JokeCharacter.
** There's also Mario, Yoshi, Pit, Link and Kirby at [[spoiler:the Canyon]]. Would normally be BigDamnHeroes, [[FridgeLogic until you realise]] that the rescuees consisted of six people and three Pokémon who probably could've handled it themselves.
* ThatOneBoss: [[spoiler: Tabuu.]] Also, [[EarthBound Porky]] and Duon.

* HilariousInHindsight: There was a letter sent to NintendoPower describing characters the writer would like to see in the game. One of the characters was Lucario. Nintendo Power sarcastically replied that it was a good character choice.

* CrowningMomentOfAwesome - So very many, as noted on [[Awesome/SuperSmashBros its own page.]]
* CrowningMusicOfAwesome:
** So many. This game takes nearly ''every single awesome piece of music from every Nintendo game EVER,'' throws in some remixes, adds a few new tunes, and makes a soundtrack from it. It's [[CrowningMusic/SuperSmashBros exactly as awesome as you would think it would be.]]
** All '''260 tracks''' of it. [[http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=F610B61A4BD24383 Have]] [[http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=02CACA5A61D39FDA a nice]] {{Archive Binge}}!
** Doubling as Crowning Music '''and''' a Crowning Moment of Awesome for Hideo Kojima: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUfKFElJ9sA Metal Gear Solid 4's "Theme of Love"]] from ''Brawl''. Why is this a Crowning Moment? Because at the time of ''Brawl's'' release, '''[=MGS4=] hadn't been released yet.''' Kojima basically got a small advertisement for the game (a Sony exclusive) into ''Brawl'' (a Nintendo exclusive).

* ContestedSequel: ''Brawl'', for being slower paced and evening everyone's jumping gravity. [[WordOfGod Sakurai]] said that it was to make the game more of a pick-up-and-play experience than ''Melee'' but very few fans agree.

to:

* ! The Main games
* AndTheFandomRejoiced:
** Any new character that was confirmed to be playable, especially Snake and Sonic.
** R.O.B. was the only exception, as he was a ReplacementScrappy to many fans' dream additions. He didn't stay hated for long, though.
** Final Destination is now counter-pick.
* BrokenBase: ''Brawl'' fans and ''Melee'' fans... it's best we leave this example at that.
** Additionally: "[[{{Scrub}} Casualfags]]" and "[[StopHavingFunGuys Tourneyfags]]". Moreso than in any game ever.
** Among the competitive community, "Pro-Ban" and "Anti-Ban" concerning Meta Knight, though that has died down as of late.
* ComplacentGamingSyndrome: Overlaps with StopHavingFunGuys.

ContestedSequel: ''Brawl'', for being having slower paced action and evening everyone's jumping gravity. [[WordOfGod Sakurai]] said that it was to make the game more of a pick-up-and-play experience than ''Melee'' but very few fans agree.agree.
* CrackPairing: Samus/Pikachu, a MoeCouplet latched on to tongue-in-cheek by the fanbase, referencing obsessive shippers and the amount of creepy fans Samus has recently acquired.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Metroid isn't really much of a success in Japan and the amount of games produced for it is not much compared to other Nintendo series. Hell, it has had only one protagonist with consistent roles, hence why you only get to play as Samus. we do get, however, three Metroid themes stages in Brawl, along with two appearances of Ridley in the Subspace Emissary (other than the optional battle with Ganondorf, no Zelda boss appears).
* FanDumb - Let's just say that it exists.
* GameBreaker: now has [[GameBreaker/SuperSmashBros its own page]]
* GoodBadBugs:
** So many, for example Wavedashing and Zap Jumps.
** There's a glitch in ''Melee'' that lets you, among other things, play as Master Hand, though it is [[GameBreakingBug prone to crashing]]. Note that this glitch went undiscovered for ''seven years''.
* NightmareFuel: [[NightmareFuel/SuperSmashBros It even has its own page!]]
* OneTruePairing: Snake/Samus, for many Brawlers.
* TheScrappy: Pichu. Its electric-based attacks ''damage itself''.
* ScrappyLevel / ThatOneSidequest: Cruel Melee/Brawl, along with Battlefield Fortress in Subspace Emissary & the [[BossRush Boss Battles]] in ''Brawl''.
* ScrappyMechanic:
** Tripping in the third game. Whenever a player breaks into a run, they may, by completely random chance, trip over and leave themselves vulnerable. The mechanic doesn't go away in Sudden Death. Even though tripping gives you invincibility frames, you could pretty much do the same thing but better with sidestepping.
** Arguably the Pokémon Trainer's stamina mechanic which punishes you for trying to rely on one of the Mons by reducing your stats when you use one specific one for too long (and to a lesser degree how the current mon automatically switches when you die). This despite the fact that Sheik/Zelda never needed any handicap on multiple forms besides lacking an Down-B move.
*** This was probably implemented to convey the theme of using the entire Pokémon team instead of relying on one member.
* SequelDisplacement: When Melee was young, a number of fans failed to realize that there was a game that came before it, despite the information being in Melee.
* UnpleasableFanbase: People like to complain that their favorite characters didn't make the selectable roster. [[SuperMarioRPG Geno]], [[{{Metroid}} Ridley]], and [[GoldenSun Isaac]] are among the most popular suggestions.

! Subspace Emissary
* AssPull: Arguably, [[spoiler: Sonic's appearance at the end]].
* GoddamnedBats - Pretty much all the [[strike:flying]] enemies that are not already DemonicSpiders.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** The second Subspace Emissary stage, the one where the real action begins, is called "Skyworld", plays ''KidIcarus'' music throughout, and has you play as Pit for the entirety of the stage (the option to control Mario for the last third of the stage notwithstanding). Sakurai's next project after ''Brawl'' happens to be ''Kid Icarus: Uprising''. Coincidence?
* LoveItOrHateIt: Either it's a great platformer with elements from the game, or a terrible attempt to give the games a mode with a story.
* NightmareFuel - A lot of the {{Mooks}} (those not taken from existing settings like the Goombas from ''Mario'') appear to have been designed by TimBurton. Also certain hacks are these, such as the infamous Longchu.
* NightmareRetardant: [[spoiler: Tabuu. Three Words: Rainbow Butterfly Man]]
* TearJerker:
** [[spoiler: Seeing that one R.O.B. unit sadly waving goodbye to the Ancient Minister (later revealed to be the playable character R.O.B.) before being destroyed by the Subspace Bomb; all of the robots in the factory turning on their leader by firing lasers at him when he was only trying to save them all from destroying the island and themselves; when R.O.B. is watching the bomb count down, all sound but the bleeping timer fades out and his impassive robot face somehow managing to convey sadness as his eyes glow blue and shutters slowly close over the lenses; and when the Island of the Ancients could never be restored upon Tabuu's defeat, making R.O.B. the LastOfHisKind.]] ''Oh, gosh...''
** The [[spoiler:three]] times that [[spoiler:[[TakingTheBullet one character submits to trophification to save another]]]]. And the first of those times, [[TheSadisticChoice you get to decide which one is which.]]
