* UnpleasableFanbase: [=GameFreak=] can't add any more than three water Pokémon per generation without the fanbase screaming "There's too much already!!" and "Why are there not enough Electric or Fire types?!?" And that's just one example.
** There are of course people who want Pokémon games to have more plot to them, as well as to be DarkerAndEdgier. Along come games like ''Colosseum'' and ''XD'', which have a rather DarkerAndEdgier plot, as well as spinoff titles like ''[[{{Ptitlenoddanat}} Pokémon Ranger]]'' which are more plot-driven, and what do they get criticised for? For not being like Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow.
*** The problem here seemed to be more with changing gameplay elements rather than more intricate plots. ''[[{{Ptitlenoddanat}} Pokémon Ranger]]'' had a ScrappyMechanic in its first iteration, and ''Colosseum'' and ''XD'' didn't allow for exploration between cities and special areas. [[{{Ptitlecm0ohq79}} Pokémon Mystery Dungeon]] seems to be pretty well liked and had a pretty [[DarkerAndEdgier interesting]] storyline in its first game. Of course, there are definitely people who will argue whether or not Psychics were {{Nerf}}ed unfairly.
** Fan responses to Generation V have been mixed from AndTheFandomRejoiced to the typical HateDumb that every generation past the second has been subjected to, though it does tend to get less flak from them than the third or fourth.

''[[{{Ptitled53fvupl}} Pokémon Special]]'' is far more well known than any other Pokémon manga, even in its native country [[NoExportForYou where most manga stay]], to the point where to many it's considered the official Pokémon manga. The [[Anime/{{ptitlei015gc004kw4}} anime]] is more well known than the games even to this day despite the games being one of {{Nintendo}} and Game Freak's biggest franchises and the second biggest gaming franchise '''ever'''.

*** AndTheFandomRejoiced: In Gen IV, fan-favorite Blaziken was outclassed competitively by newcomer Infernape in both [[strike:power]] speed and versatility. Come Gen V, Blaziken's Dream World ability, Speed Boost, and a large damage buff to the previously spoony Hi Jump Kick attack, allowed it to surpass Infernape in physical offense capabilities.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Pick almost any Pokémon in the whole series and you'll find that it has its share of devoted fans. Although some, such as Charizard, Pikachu, Lucario and [[{{OlympusMons}} whatever the super powerful legendary of the day is]] immediately come to mind. MemeticMutation also creates quite a few darkhorses, such as Mudkip and "Smugleaf".

** The point is raised frequently why the main villains only ever are armed with Pokemon, as opposed to, say, guns. Consider that, in a world where deadly beasts have been domesticated for millennia, firearms may never have actually ''been'' developed.

** Geodude share a habitat with Zubat. And their tendency to explode in your face is not welcome.
** Hoohoot are ''everywhere'' at night, there are even places where they are the only things present.

** Mamanbou looks like an evolution to Luvdisc. Mamanbou is not the evolution of Luvdisc. Luvdisc remains a [[TheScrappy Scrappy]].

** "Gyarados' Intimidate cuts X's Attack!"

** Double Team increases the user's evasion rate, and can be used repeatedly. There was no way to counter its effect in the first generation (aside from an AlwaysAccurateAttack), and just about every Pokémon can be taught the move from a TM. Even in later generations, skills that reduce evasion or increase accuracy are in short supply.

*** Actually in HGSS, you don't have to accept it (It still makes an [[MostAnnoyingSound annoying sound]] and if you have to open the Pokégear, you will have to listen to it).

*** Even with the Wi-Fi events, there's still a scrappiness to it since they only happen for a certain amount of time before being LostForever. If you were unable to get the Pokémon/item being given away (maybe due to not having the game at the time), you're out of luck since they only gave away most things (Secret Key, Member's Card, Oak's Letter) once.
