* AmbitionIsEvil: Slade's desire for a promotion pre-story results in King's shift from WellIntentionedExtremist to full on terrorist, and sparks Lucia's transformation from a shy little child to a psychopath so twisted that even the lord demons feel he's worthy of bowing down to.

* SmallRoleBigImpact: Slade appears in a grand total of TWO chapters before King kills him, and yet his actions are what ultimately resulted in both King AND Lucia going off the deep end and trying to destroy the world.

* AnIcePerson: Julius.

* TemporalParadox: Okay, so Haru, Elie [[spoiler:who's really Resha Valentine thrown 50 years into the future]] and Sieg Hart travel 50 years to the past to recover Elie's memories [[spoiler:of being Resha]]. While there, [[NiceJobBreakingItHero Haru foils an assassination attempt against Resha but lets the assassins escape]]. Because of his interference, the assassins return a few days later and almost kill Resha. In the process she receives a cut on the arm [[spoiler:a duplicate of which instantly appears on the arm of her older self, Elie]]. Talk about DelayedRippleEffect. Rave also begins to malfunction when Resha is in greatest peril, kinda like Marty's hand beginning to disappear when his future is threatened in ''Film/BackToTheFuture''. Best not to try to make sense of any of it.

* BoobsOfSteel: Julia again.

* DefeatByModesty: Flat-out averted ([[BoobsOfSteel so to speak]]) by Julia.

* KickTheSonOfABitch: Reina does this to Sieg after he mindrapes Haru.
** Also played in the first Haru vs. Lucia. Haru mercilessly stomp the BigBad Lucia not once but twice, first with a sword, and later with his fists. He manages to avoid crossing the line in both times.

* TheResolutionWillNotBeTelevised: Due to the anime being canceled, everything after the first battle with Oracion Seis can only be seen in the manga.

* LoveTriangle: Quite a few instances of a [[TriangRelations Type 4]] triangle.
** Celia and Elie both like Haru, who likes Elie back.
** After Celia leaves, Belnika and Elie both like Haru, who likes Elie back.
** Haru and Lucia both like Elie, who likes Haru back.
** Let and Jegan both like Julia, who likes Let back.

* AllDeathsFinal: In a [[DeathIsCheap stark contrast]] to Mashima's [[Manga/FairyTail following series]], no one who dies ever comes back to life. There are death fakeouts, but no resurrections.

* CryCute: ''Both'' Haru and Elie. If you really think about it, any of the characters who end up in tears, save for the comic relief.

* PerpetualPoverty: Starting with the defeat of King, the gang always seems to be in financial trouble. They recruit one of the richest 'men' in the world, and he goes broke. They eventually get a rare collectable item and sell it, but over time they spend all the money they got from that. They then win over a million Edel in a contest, and Evermary spends it all on [[NiceHat snail caps]] in a matter of days while they fight the current BigBad.

* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: Not quite on the level of the author's later ''Manga/FairyTail'', but still plentiful.

* ExtraordinarilyEmpoweredGirl: Elie.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Sieg, of course. Hardner's hair is blue too, and Belnika also has blue/purple hair. Haru, Gale, and Let have silver hair. Shuda's hair is unnaturally red. Nagisa's is pink. Reina's is green.

Known in Japan simply as ''[=RAVE=]'', this was the first major manga to bring success to eventual ''Manga/FairyTail'' creator Creator/HiroMashima, weaving 35 volumes in a fantastic tale of love, honor, courage and fate. It was adapted into an anime in 2001 titled ''Groove Adventure Rave'', which ended in 2002 with 51 episodes that only cover the first third of the story before its premature cancelation. While Hiro Mashima has continued hoping his series will one day get a second chance at adaptation, this stumble has put a big damper in things.

* CryForTheDevil: Just in case you've forgotten what Lucia is fighting for, the chapter where he puts his final plan into motion begins with a flashback to his arrest. The horrified look on his little face after having witnessed the government decide his family is better off wiped off the face of the planet speaks volumes.

* ExplainingYourPowerToTheEnemy: Happens quite a bit in the manga, mostly when new moves are introduced to the audience. Possibly deconstructed during the fight with Doryu when Ruby, explaining to our heroes how innate magical alignments work, [[WhatAnIdiot accidentally reveals the alignments of the heroes to the bad guy.]] His saving grace was that he changed their alignment to Dark earlier, making the information useless.

* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: Sieg's namesake is Siegfried, from the ''{{Literature/Nibelungenlied}}''. The sword Mel Force comes from, wait for it... Mel Gibson and [[StarWars the force]].

** ChromeChampion: The first dark bring seen in the series, Full Metal, used by Feber.
** PlayingWithFire: Shuda's first dark bring, Virtual Flame.
** SuperSmoke: Georco's Smoke Bar, the smoke is also a DeadlyGas that can suffocate people.
** MasterOfIllusion: Lance's Beast Sword imbued with Real Moment Dark Bring, the sword can generate illusions of creatures like wolves and dragons, but then they become solid for a moment at a time.
** ShockAndAwe: Go equipped the dark bring Angry Blitz in his [[DropTheHammer hammer]], he's called as the thunder man because of this power.
** StickySituation: [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Glue Tear]] which shoots out a glue like substance. Used by Shuda's goon, Pooysa.
** TunnelKing: [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Submarine Soil]] used by Demonoid Zahrshippe. It allows the user to "swim" through the earth like it were water.
** SelectiveMagnetism: Gnet in Gin Tower has the Compass Cord Dark Bring that can forces a person to stand still in a magnetic field, too bad he's a minor villain.
** SphereOfDestruction: King's Black Zenith can blasts it off in a form of [[EnergyBall huge ball]] that devours everything in its path, though it easily cut by Rune Save because it's not physical object.
** CoolGate: The portal Dark Bring to Makai World named [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Gate.]]
** CastingAShadow: Shadow Doll Dark Bring has the ability to control shadows.
** SpikesOfDoom: Ron's Needle Pain can produce this by striking the ground.
** AttackReflector: Racas's Rhythm Couter allows him to counter an enemy's attacks but with twice the force. His {{Telepathy}} [[RequiredSecondaryPowers ability]] makes it even harder to get the jump on him.
** {{Invisibility}}: Ltiangle's Dark Bring Transparent allows the user to turn anything and anyone invisible. This includes weapons, structures, other people, and himself.
** CoolSword: Decalogus, the EvilCounterpart to the Ten Powers, used by both King and Lucia.
** TimeBomb : End of Earth. [[spoiler:Implanted into Gale Glory 10 years ago by King]] over time, it collects energy to eventually cause another Overdrive.
** OneWingedAngel: Few Dark Bring can physically alter the user's appearance and give them enhanced powers at the cost of being irreversible. [[DemBones Bone Knight]] turns its user, Mummy into a [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin bone knight]] [[ShockAndAwe with electric powers]]. King's second to last Dark Bring, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Monster Prison]] traps him inside a bestial form of himself with the ability to [[BreathWeapon fire a laser from his mouth]].
** TeleportersAndTransporters: King's last Dark Bring, the Warp Road.
** {{Sizeshifter}}: Franken Billy's Dark Bring named ... Giant, which allows him to alter the size of his arms.
** XRayVision: Double Vista, a dark bring that even appears in the form of sunglasses.
** {{Intangibility}}: [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Through The Wall]].
** TakenForGranite: Stone Roses turns whatever it hits into stone.
** OneHitKill: Cookie Crusher's Dark Bring All Crush has the power to entirely shatter anything the user touches or whatever touches the user into rubble.
** BlowYouAway: North Wind allows Lillith to become wind and produces wind.
** PoisonousPerson: Death Poison used by Poison Cloud Orochi.
** MakeMeWannaShout: Used Sound. It increases Ranju's voice to a point where it can kill anyone who hears it.
*** NoSell: Sound Canceller. which allows Sopia to cancel sound, which is extremely useful against sorcerers who have to chant their spells.
** MindOverMatter: Sky High. allows the user to control anything in air, such as weapons and those who can't resist the control. Used by Onigami user, Gobu.
** SuperStrength[=/=]CharlesAtlasSuperpower Type 56, Deep Snow, Shuda's replacement's second Dark Bring implanted in his body at birth. It allows the user to unlock his true potentials and powers, in other words eliminating the barriers to become stronger. Grants enormous power to the user by breaking the limits of the human body.
** MoreThanInfinite: Type 61, [[spoiler:implanted into Haja's body and the secret of his infinite power]], which allows the user to have infinite magical energy.
** InstantSedation: Dux Dormir, which creates a gas that puts anything to sleep, including Sean Vivera, one of the Six Guard himself.
** BreathWeapon: Hard Breath allows Reevil, one of the Six Guard to control their breath to the point that it can deflect bullets and propel grown men far into the air. It can also tear the clothes off of another person.
** InstantAwesomeJustAddMecha: [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Machinery]] which allows Six Guard member, Koala to allows user to control any machine in battle as well as to repair and upgrade them to difference versions.
** InstantArmor: Dress Up, used by Six Guard member, to wear anything that being shot or thrown at the user including bullets, electricity, and fire. It also allow the user to wear anything surrounding such as wind to become faster. Her most powerful "dress" is when she uses metal as armor.
** [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Twister]] which allows Six Guard member, Giraffe, allows him to twist any object, no matter how hard, as long as he's touching it for even a moment, [[BodyHorror even people]]!
** HollywoodAcid: [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Acid Rain]], used by Six Guard leader, Lukan, allows him to dissolve anything that touches his skin, and change into acid, granting him immunity to physical attacks.
** LightIsNotGood: Used Blue Guardian's First Mate Lunar. Her DB allows her to travel in a bright flash of light, giving her instantaneous travel to anywhere. She can also dart through the air like a dense light missile, piercing anything she hits on contact with laser sharp precision. [[{{Irony}} Its ironic considering it is the element that directly opposes Dark Brings]].
** ElementalPowers: Six Star Dark Bring
*** HavingABlast: Ballettänzer Zeffrea, Shuda's second Dark Bring, creates explosions at any given spot.
*** ExtraOreDinary: White Kiss, Reina's Dark Bring, which creates metal from literally nothing.
*** GreenThumb[=/=]AttackReflector: Yggdrasil, Jegan's Dark Bring, which allows him to absorb almost all power and attacks and control and manipulation of plants. If an enemy directly strikes Yggdrasil, the enemy will begin to sprout little seedlings which eventually morph the enemy into a tree
*** AnIcePerson: Armure D'Etoile, used Juilus, one of the Oracion Seis, harnesses the power of ice.
*** DishingOutDirt: G-Earth, used by Berial, another of the Oracion Seis, harnessed the power of earth, [[InformedAbility though the full extent of this power is unknown]]. [[spoiler:Especially since its owner died just before revealing its true power]].
*** MakingASplash: [[BloodyMurder Zero]] [[BlowYouAway Stream]], used by Shuda's replacement, Deep Snow. It is able able to control all that flows, which includes water, wind, and even blood. This dark bring is able to use water as a shield, create tidalwaves, turn rain droplets into bullets, contort and twist enemies' bodies by a simple move of a finger, and use wind to blow away debris and enemies.
*** AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: The Mother Dark Bring that make up the original Dark Bring Sinclair [[spoiler:as well as Endless]], used by almost every BigBad except King.
*** [[spoiler:EldritchAbomination: It holds all of the powers of the five Mother Dark Brings, and its assimilation initiates the destruction of the world. As its title suggests, it gives an individual the power to destroy dimensions. It takes the form of a dark EnergyBeing at full power and a slime ball in its base form.]]
*** PowerOfTheVoid: Sinclair/ Dark Mother, Lucia's primary Dark Bring. It can cause large explosions and create warped dimensional spaces with great enough pressure to annihilate anything. The explosions are similar to Overdrive but on a smaller scale.
*** GravitySucks: Vampire, Doryu's Sinclair piece. It has control over gravity and repulsion, allowing the user to either draw in the enemy or push them back. When mastered, it can "pull physical matter into darkness".
*** NighInvulnerable[=/=]TheLawOfDiminishingDefensiveEffort: Last Physics, Ogre's Dark Sinclair piece. It it prevents the owner from being harmed by any physical attack, even if it pierces the body. Fists, bullets, & swords are all useless against this Dark Bring. It is, however, useless against non-physical attacks such as magic.
*** TimeMaster[=/=] HealingFactor: Anastasis, Hardner's Sinclair. Its mainly resurrection, allowing the user to heal himself from seemingly grievous wounds or to call up living or non-living things that has been destroyed. He can also use it to control plants by filling them with life, restoring enemies' past wounds, and also to rebuild buildings and ruins that have been destroyed.
*** AllYourPowersCombined: Final Story, Ashura's Sinclair piece, which is later used by Lucia. Allows complete control of all Dark Bring, and can destroy any that are used against him.

* RealityEnsues:
** The first time Haru get his hands on the Ten Powers sword, he has no clue what to do because he's never had sword training. Shiba even thinks to himself that it was a bit much to expect him to master every aspect of being the Rave Master so quickly. Haru does pick up on sword skills as the story progresses, but it's clear that after two years, he's still nowhere near as skilled as Shiba was with his 50+ years of experience.
** Shortly after Haru lets the Ten Powers sword and uses it a bit, it shatters to pieces. As Shiba notes, a sword that's seen constant use for 50 years isn't going to last forever. So Haru's first quest is to go and get the sword reforged.
** After the destruction of Demon Card's HQ, Musica ends up with injuries severe enough to leave him in the hospital for six months.
** Shortly after he joins the party, Let brings up a point most WalkingTheEarth series tend to ignore: funding. He openly questions how the group intends to pay for all the expenses like food and fuel they would accumulate with none of them having an income. The group is often shown later acquiring means of transport and food as thanks for helping the citizens.
** [[spoiler:Late in the story, Musica has to do an emergency reforging of the Ten Powers sword for Haru. Despite being the grandson of the UltimateBlacksmith, inherited talent is still no match for hard-earned practice, preventing him from making anything. He does succeed, but through his only powers instead of being a smithy.]]

* WalkingTheEarth: The heroes are always traveling and never settle in one place except for the arc's adventure.

* WreckedWeapon: Haru breaks the Ten Powers/Ten Commandments towards the end of the first volume. The next couple volumes focus on tracking down and persuading the blacksmith Musica to repair it.

* {{BFS}}: Haru's Eisenmeteor and Gravity Core swords.

* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Two. While most deaths in the manga are swift, to say the least, the last king of Symphonia dies slowly from a magic induced illness shortly after becoming a father. The second, or first [[StableTimeLoop depending on how you want to look at it]], is [[spoiler:Sieg Hart]], who starves to death over twenty years before being born. He could have avoided the situation if he'd used the fact that when first going back to Symphonia ''he had a hole in his gut''. Haru and Elie's main character power would have gotten them back to the present some other way. [[spoiler:Elie already pulled it off on her own once anyway]].
