Kennedy was assassinated, ABC put up a bumper photo of JFK with the byline "1926-1963" twenty minutes before press secretary Malcolm Kilduff made it official and wire services were cleared to announce it. NBC was first to make the official announcement at 1:36 CST, CBS made theirs about two minutes later. ABC announced the official AP flash around the time NBC did.
