WesternAnimation Not my favorite DC animated movie
Justice League War was disappointing for me. The movie is Darkseid invading Earth and seven heroes banding together to stop him, the origin of JL in new 52 reboot. I haven't read the comic at all, so I can't judge how it is as an adaption. This is just my view of the movie itself. The plot was decent enough and the threat was big enough for an origin story of JL. Darkseid felt pretty generic here. He didn't have the mastermind vibe that I liked for previous animated incarnations like DC animated universe. He was powerful threat on his own he felt unneeded here. If they just threw in any alien warlord here and nothing would be missed. The characterization of some heroes were off. Superman I didn't mind him being more aggressive, Batman was good, and I liked Flash and Cyborg. Green Lantern was mishandled here. They captured Hal's overconfidence and arrogance, but he was a clown most of the movie who kept putting his foot in his mouth. Shazam being a bratty kid was a complete turn off for me. There was nothing likeable about him. To me the best part of Shazam is how good natured he is despite all his hardship in life. He lost that uniqueness. Wonder Woman also turned me off. I didn't mind her being more of a battle love warrior, but like with Hal I think they overdid it and lost what makes her work. She was a bit of royal brat in some scenes.
I warn people who dislike the DC heroes killing. Perademons are massacred in this movie. Heroes outright kill them. The battle with Darkseid was impressive. I liked the extreme lengths the League go to stop Darkseid. I do warn people that it gets a graphic and might seem odd to some characters like Flash gouge out one of Darkseid's eyes out. It was good move to tie in Cyborg's origin to Darkseid invasion. It gave the heroes a way to defeat Darkseid. All in all Justice League is average overall, but was shallow compared to other DC animated movies. Compare this to Justice League Doom it really is shallow. If you like grand scale battles, intense fights, and the heroes cut loose you'll probably really enjoy this movie.
WesternAnimation To think that this came after the Flashpoint Paradox movie....
Pros:
Green Lantern was hilarious
Cyborg was decently developed
Fight scenes look good
Animation and art is good
Cons:
Plot? Basically a cliche alien invasion.
Batman is over glorified in this film. This is a fact not an opinion. I love the guy but I hate when people give him way too much creidit, you want proof? 1. How the hell did he know who Clark was when he clearly stated in the beginning of the movie that he DOESN'T KNOW WHO SUPERMAN IS!!!??? 2. Everyone drops everything to pay worships to Batman (except Green Lantern) 3. He comes out a portal with Superman (who was possessed and was fighting him in a previous scene) and there was no indication of how the fight went. It basically implied that Batman somehow took him on without Kryptonite. Really?
None of the characters have much depth except for Cyborg (and Batman obviously but it is shown in the laziest way possible)
Why is Superman a douche? For what reason is this change necessary? I was interested at first.....until I realized they weren't going anywhere with it.
Why is Wonder Woman an idiot? And why is she literally there just to be fawned on by most of the guys on the team?
They had the device to take down the bad guys the ENTIRE TIME but they didn't use it?! Really? (Really Cyborg?)
Darkseid is an incredibly generic alien invasion lord. Well....at least the DC Animated Universe gave him depth.
Overall: Is this how the comic is? Cause if so, I am not getting it. This movie is worse than Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. I cannot believe that this came after DC's brilliant Flashpoint Paradox movie. Go give that movie a watch instead of this garbage. I have nothing else to say on this review other than that the only thing good about the movie is the art, animation, and fight scenes. That's about it. If you're expecting more, you're better off watching other DC Animated Original Movies.
Sigh, just so disappointing.
