There are a BILLION fanfics out there, and the vast majority of them are romance-centric. I get it. Frankly, I'm starting to get sick of it too. Or I was. I've always been a hopeless romantic, and I always will be. The thing that was bothering me was the quality of the fan fiction that was being mindlessly shoved out there. We all know Sturgeon's law, or we SHOULD, (Go look it up now. You know who you are.) and it's in full effect most of the time.
This fic is worth looking at. At first glance, you'd never know it. The summary is, ironically, routine; Arrancar sneaks into world of the living, meets Ichigo, fluff ensues. But the author has a secret weapon up his sleeve: he's good at what he does. It starts out slow, as most do, but builds up slowly and surely. The characters are depicted in a way that not only is true to the source, but expands upon them and brings out little details and quirks that not many bother to include, at least not with such a level of subtlety that it's an actual quirk and not an out of character trait. The story at first just seems to be an excuse for more of the romance to happen, and in a way this is true, but at the same time it's a bit deeper than that; the romance is the driving point, the reason it all happens. Without this important plot device, we would have no plot, and without the plot, the romance wouldn't be able to continue. It's a symbiotic relationship between two things that many have declared cannot coexist in the same story without ruining it.
I'd like to see anyone top this story in the same way. I'm not saying this story is the best, not at all.. I literally want to see more of this kind of writing, and if it takes someone else finding or writing a better one, then bring it on.
