Ginny Weasley & the Character Development She's Always Deserved

This is easily one of the best '[character] is sorted into Slytherin' fanfictions out there. Ginny doesn't undergo any drastic changes because she was sorted into Slytherin, she just ends up strengthening and enhancing the skills that she already has. Her mischievous streak from canon is refined into something darker which isn't to say that it's evil, just morally ambiguous. Ginny's growth into the talented witch she becomes in canon feels far more organic than it does in the books, as does her growing relationship with Harry.

The author has the uncanny ability to show a lot of detail and emotion in very few words. Ginny being sorted into Slytherin is heartbreaking well written, from her own disappointment to the reactions of her family. Her gradual introduction into the house as a whole is woven extremely well into the story, as is her understanding of what it means to be a Slytherin. The house itself gets some much needed positive focus with the Parlour Girls and the introduction of several original characters who are far more well rounded than the ones we meet in canon.

Harry and Ginny's relationship is explored in an entirely different way from canon, but it works so much better for it. They're on even footing from a much earlier stage in their friendship and they have a beautiful ebb-and-flow to their deepening relationship that feels very natural. Ginny is the one to see Harry at his very worst, and she's also one of the few who understands how to help him. Ginny notices little things about Harry that no-one else seems to and it adds another layer of depth to their relationship.

Coming from someone who isn't a big fan of Ginny or the Harry/Ginny relationship, this fanfic is absolutely one that's worth reading.
