This article puts a weird amount of stress on the lack of new releases of the film somehow "suppressing" the original Br'er Rabbit stories, and implying that it's the only place they survive. As a child I could find them (and Anansi stories, also mentioned) in the library of my very small elementary school and in the pages of the children's literature magazine Cricket, and with no racist framing device. Collections of African folktales also continue to be published. I'm pretty sure most Americans have at least heard of Br'er Rabbit.

How old are you? More importantly, those tales are still published but most of them are unknown to the average American voter. Geeks and nerds are neither average or ordinary people.
