It makes sense as they both have similar features as blond hair, blue eyes and a knack for trouble. All throughout the books, we see Richard not being fazed by moving dinosaurs or demons so would it be too much of a stretch to think that Alex came back to England because something happened to Sabina and didn't want M16 to find him so he changed his name and went to live in York with a new backstory and not to be a journalist but to stay away from Alan Blunt and Mrs Jones.
