I'm not sure what this trope is named, but I want to add an entry that basically amounts to "the player's guide was wrong". For the snake bridge, which normally collapses if you try to walk on it, Nintendo Power's walkthrough said "drop all your items next to the bridge, then cross and retrieve the staff." This is so horribly off from what you ACTUALLY do ( drink the potion in the Light Bottle) that it took me forever to actually get past that and beat the game.

I'm not sure misprints in manuals would count as a trope, or should count, especially since some might misuse it to complain about every mistake in a guide, or to "correct" a guide.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.
