Because they don't know what they're talking about.
Seiken Densetsu was released for the Gameboy, under the titles "Final Fantasy Adventure", "Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden" and "Mystic Quest", depending on the region. Seiken Densetsu was released in 1991, Secret of Mana in 1993, and Secret of Evermore in 1995. Clearly not a sequel.
If Secret of Evermore is not the prequel to Seiken Densetsu 2 and 3 (Secret of Mana 1 and 2, respetively with the latter being the super-popular one with No Export for You), why do so many people call it Seiken Densetsu 1?
