The whole bit about needing to be "complete pacifists" to avoid military service is woefully outdated. Ever since the fall of the Iron Curtain the army has become less and less important* and alternative civil service has become more common (a.k.a. avoiding the military because civil service seems preferable, not because of profound political beliefs). That being said, this stems from my personal experience living there and I can't seem to find any trustworthy statistics to back me up, so I'll let it be until I do.
- The country's landlocked, permanently neutral, no longer has any active borders to patrol (Schengen Agreement) and rarely experiences larger-scale natural disasters (no hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, tornadoes (at least in the last 94 years), volcanoes…).
