Do Valerie and Jughead count as "third option love interests", or do they fit into the Betty and Veronica trope too? As a disruption or otherwise.

WMG theory but: could the parents be the actual original Archie Comics characters, and the "main character" sequel offspring? Fred is the quite honest typical guy who had a lot of success in his youth; he ended with Mary ( redhead like Cheryl, Archie's usual third option) but had stuff going with Hermione , and apparently Betty's blonde mother was quite jealous too? Kevin's dad is understanding with his son's homosexuality because he's comic's Kevin, so gay too and understand how difficult it could be? Jughead's father's being quite the marginal drove him avay from society and his family ? Josie's mother was a singer, married a musician, but her career failed and she came back to Riverdale with the bitterness that turned her cynical? Maybe seeing their kids doing the same mistakes is their purgatory?
