I think there is a subtle difference between Kick The Wrong Dog and this trope. Kick The Wrong Dog only describes when the evil action DIRECTLY causes the death. The Equation of Morality and Mortality applies even when the evil act did not directly cause the misfortune of the evildoer's loved one.

Also, in Kick The Wrong Dog, the kicking is caused by a failure on the kicker's part. This trope is when the Success of the Dog-Kickery, correlates with (but not causes) the karma rebounding on the other dog
