I don't think the Star Wars examples count. Guinness and Cushing careers were on the decline, were excellently cast and appropriately billed. Dern is a bit more of a star and got a lot of screen time.
Spitz and Stamp aren't quite household names, IMHO and used effectively.
I'm not sure who you'd play opposite Yoda. You need a big star with stage presence and SLJ is a fair choice for that.
