Isn't this called Sequel Baiting? That's what my brother calls it, anyway.

I think the problem is that "baiting" is usually pejorative, with the implication that you're drawing in audiences without delivering what they want. Which happens to plenty of sequel hooks, but we don't want pejorative trope names.

Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.

In Ghost Trick, Sissel is revealed to keep his powers of the dead in the end, possibly foreshadowing a second installment. We don't have a confirmation yet for such a game, though. Is this an example of this trope?
