Well, there are many examples from sites like Not Always Right, I remember one story that involves one bakery where the new owner (son of the previous ones) decides to make some 'rearrangements' and ends up firing the main cook, the only guy who knew all recipes.
They however should go in Web Original.
Does it count as a Real Life example when newly promoted manager fires someone as a power move, only for that someone to turn out to be actually crucial to the operations and rather irreplacable? There was a story on Reddit about a new owner who fired the guy who owned all the patents for a company.
