What about cyberspace? I seem to remember it being a very hot concept in the mid-90s to have cyberspace itself somehow endow you with powers.. Obviously Freakazoid wasn't very serious about it, but other things were. When people actually GOT the internet it quickly switched to 'traveling to cyberspace' but for a brief period there you could apparently draw strength and especially intelligence from it.
