It would make more sense to call this the Black Sheep, rather than the Redheaded Stepchild, since the latter typically connotes something (violently) disliked, whereas this trope seems to be about shows that just don't quite match up with a network's other programming but aren't necessarily unsupported by the network (it's a little diffcult to see, for example, Lost as a redheaded stepchild given that I'm fairly sure ABC was entirely happy with the results of its time on the air)
