Not everything that attacks humans need necessarily be carnivorous. Some larger herbivores like cape buffalo, rhinoceros and hippopotamus are territorial and aggressively defensive. Many creatures will attack something they think is threatening their young. Note that in the original King Kong the party is attacked by a stegosaurus, a sauropod and (offscreen) some ceratopsians- all herbivores.

Comment re. Reign of Fire: the dragons are stated as eating ash (fail chemistry forever?). They're not predators in the sense of relying on other animals for food; anything combustible will do.

Godsdammit. He's being poetic when he says that. They don't literally feed on ash. Hell, one of them eats the guy who says that. Why does everyone take that line literally?
