Could be Heel–Faith Turn if they joined a nicer religion. Possibly Outgrown Such Silly Superstitions if religion is viewed as the problem. I'm not sure if there's a specific trope for it.

There is no specific trope to my knowledge, but you might want to search on Lost And Found.

What the hell does the opening quote mean? I'm not seeing it illustrate this trope. And it takes a lot of space.

Hm...well, the opening quote is part of a scene in which a character undergoes a Faith Heel Turn which perfectly demonstrates the trope, but...the quote itself doesn't illustrate that, and I couldn't find a quote from the scene that does. Maybe we should just scrap the quote?

Unless any other Homestuck fans can figure out a way to make it work.

It's probably flame bait, but I've heard fundamentalists seriously say that they're sure that if it wasn't for their belief that God is watching them, they'd be in the middle of a three-state murder spree right now. For some reason, they think atheists will be impressed by them saying that. Think this would be worth mentioning under 'Real Life', or is it too nattery?

If you're reading this, try sticking it under You Fail Religious Studies Forever or some variation. It seems to deviate a little from the idea of religion or losing religion making one evil.
