As I see it, this is not avoiding an assassination attempt at the last moment by unlikely coincidence.
- It almost gets to this point in Being There when the trope namer encounters a street gang and is believed to be delivering a coded message from their rivals; the leader threatens him with a knife as he instructs him to deliver a response to them. ( Chance agrees to do so when his remote control proves useless in the matter.)
I had to move the Dilbert example to discussion — it's been rendered meaningless by the old rename form "Gardener Contract" and I can't find the details needed to decrypt it. If you have knowledge of this episode could you please re-write it to the new trope description?
- Subverted in Dilbert, in which "the Big Bad" is replaced by "the FBI" (close enough), "coupla assassins" are replaced by "a SWAT team", and "Chance the Gardener" is replaced by "Chance the Reckless Driver, Terrorist and Mass Murderer".
