Gameplay and story segregation+programming limitations or just hypocrisy and double standarts?

Fridge brilliance marks this little thing: "There's a very good reason why Fallen London is much more lenient about sexual preferences than the historical one: The Bazaar feeds on love, and it's not a picky eater, so the Masters may have had a hand in legalizing non-heterosexual relationships in order to feed it more love."

However as we learn later Bazaar does not care about limitations or simple love as shown in story of Jack-of-Smiles. It needs love stories created without outside interference. Then the player learns that despite being able to choose a partner of any gender and race(freedom of choice regarding species is also questionable), they can marry only one person at a time. Thus the game is not permitting polygamous marriage. Why? If the previous point about love would have had any sense, why wouldn't it be permitted?

Well, moral standards can vary. London probably dropped away any restrictions on who to love with time, but due to what strict standards there still are they see polygamy as waaaaay too scandalous to take up. Group sex is still something you need huge Hedonist scores to do, for one.

That and the Church still has quite a lot of influence on the city. While their rules don't necessarily need to say anything about genders I'm fairly sure they have some very, very strict rules on amounts in marriage.

We're actually talking about a city that started out as 19th century London and not some part of US that is known to have a serious problems with it for some reason, right?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean here. I doubt London was much better about it at that point in time. This IS Britain, alien bazaar-like creatures and their employed hooded bats can only change so much.

Jokes aside, really, the difference isn't that huge at that point in time, London and everywhere was very, very conservative compared to what they're now.

Polygamy isn't more offending to your dear "conservative sorts" then LGT so please, don't be one yourself.

Let's not go in that direction, okay? I have said nothing of my political or moral beliefs in the least, and I haven't attacked anything or anyone. I simply stated that London was like that back then. I'm sorry if I'm misenterpreting your tone there but that sounded way too accusatory for my taste.

And I think you forgot a B there.

And might I also remind you that when I say conservative, I don't mean as in the US political party, but as in the actual other meaning of the word?

Because that might be something to take into account. You know, before the accusations start flying.
