I recently watched this film and was struck by the way that Viewers are Geniuses was played with at the end of the film, when the catcher signals to the manager, who signals to the third base coach, who signals to Hayes. Most viewers who aren't baseball players or coaches likely don't know what the signals mean but it ultimately doesn't matter because the effect is apparent - a successful hit and run by the catcher leads to the Indians winning. I found it to be a good example of a YMMV Played With trope.
