In season episode 4 there was a momment when he had a restaurant fight but risked to lose his restaurant. he could have refused the challenge but didn't because he was stubborn

It's been a while since I watched the earlier seasons, so correct me if I'm wrong, but is there any situation where Pigsy's stubbornness led him to be 'too stubborn to see the truth' prior to Season 4? Or is this a case of where it's an informed flaw?
