As I understand it, the second bullet entry is wrong. While the girls did find the exact location of the White Fang by accident, they went there with the explicit purpose to locate the White Fang using their Grimm-hunting mission as an excuse to be in the area at all. It was made very clear the girls were going there to investigate the White Fang and that Ozpin arranged the mission for them to give them that opportunity.
