The Dragon gunship (optionally accompanied by Scorpion escorts) could simply have flown over the Mountains of generating the Magical Plot Field of Inconveniencing the Humans and simply descended right on top of the tree of uber-sacredness. One missile and *bam* it\'s over. That would ensure that the majority of the time, they were out of the reach of the nasty beasties with wings.
