His wishes may be considered objectionable by anyone\\\'s standards but his own and those of the Northern Water Tribe (I.E. the only people that actually matter here) but they\\\'re what they are and it\\\'s his right to dictate the terms by which he will teach Aang.
It is not, therefore, unreasonable to refuse to train Aang when Aang went behind his back.
