(warning: spoilers!) I see a lot of stuff about disproportionate retribution on that he killed a bunch of people and all that merely because Zak refused to take him has a attorney. However, I think the original motive was to merely get Phoenix disbarred, then have Zak found guilty, and all the following crimes were a downward spiral of covering track after track of each new crime he commits, starting with Zak\'s unexpected disappearance. He would\'ve probably never killed anyone if everything just went according to plan.
