This trope seems to be an after-the-fact kind of thing. A DeusExMachina resolves the plot, whereas this trope is usually brought about after the plot has been resolved. Maybe in the resolution of the plot, the characters lost one of their friends, or had to quit their job, etc. Afterwards, they find out that the person survived, or their boss is so impressed by them solving things that they get a promotion. This one doesn\'t solve the plot, it solves residual problems that came up in the process.
