Well, as I mentioned previously when the original idea for Asura\'s ascension was brought up, it really isn\'t about how iconic or well known they are but how well they represent the trope in question. Take Madoka for example. Barely a year old and already the Goddess of Magical Girls. There is precedence for Peach, of course, it\'s just a matter of who fits it better: Peach, with how many times she\'s kidnapped, or Mithra, who was kidnapped for 12,00 years.
