The title is backwards (the \\\"appeal to...\\\" is what you\\\'re appealing to, not the opposite of it) and it\\\'s basically just a specific case of Appeal To Popularity (someone did not do this, you have never heard of them, therefore you should do this or nobody will hear of you either). Should probably drag the trope itself off to be renamed; an actual appeal to obscurity would be claims like \\\"obscure mysticism is clearly closer to the truth than mainstream religion because so few people dare to accept it.\\\"
