You\'re thinking in literal terms. The term {{redshirt}} is a misnomer, actually. I\'m not implying that we should change the trope name (since we\'re not the only ones to use the term to mean what it does), but a {{redshirt}} is a (usually) nameless minor character who serves as cannon/phaser/MonsterOfTheWeek/whatever fodder. [[TheEngineer Mr. Scott]] was a member of the main cast, had a name, and, to my knowledge, did not die at any point in the \'\'StarTrek\'\' {{canon}}.
