The words from the epilogue (or at least the English translation of it) are \\\"Look for the color of Marin and Melan\\\'s future together...A treasure the color of the rainbow, the color of happiness\\\" which would seem to suggest that they live happily every after, but the whole sequence that comes before it has a single clue that contradicts that idea. Melan has Marin\\\'s ribbon tied to his sword, which he had asked her for earlier as a memento. Why would she give it to him if they were still together? Furthermore, during the series the ribbon on the sword is a sign of a promise between the two, specifically that Melan promises to return to Marin after being absent for an extended period of time (whether it\\\'s to fight Pyon or to search for the real Creis). So why would he need a reminder to come back to her if he\\\'s not actually leaving her? The only way this would make sense is if the ribbon stands for some new promise about them staying together forever, which the song lyrics seem to suggest (\\\"We will stay together forever and sing about our eternity,\\\" \\\"I will follow you side by side to the end,\\\" etc.), but if this is the case it still doesn\\\'t clarify which of their two worlds they would be living happily ever after in. In either case, the UnfortunateImplications of this kind of EsotericHappyEnding are through the roof.

There\\\'s also another thing that bugs me about all this. I don\\\'t know how prevalent this theory is in the US, but apparently there are Japanese fans who believe Marin and Melan are destined to MARRY each other! The only possible clue I can see for this theory is that during the usual ending sequence Marin is shown wearing a wedding dress when Melan\\\'s image appears behind her. All I can say about this is ... FacePalm.
