I haven\\\'t the spoons to do anything about it either, but I look \\\'\\\'very\\\'\\\' askance at the underlying claim that \\\"most good fics/stories don\\\'t even tackle rape.\\\" I could point at many facets of this claim, but I\\\'ll restrict myself to this:

Fanfic is a female-skewed medium, where we tackle issues and viewpoints that the mainstream media ignores, stereotypes, or skews male. Female voices come from within a culture in which we are commonly aware of and subject to sexual harassment, assault, and worse; the Me Too movement pulled the curtain off how pervasive this is, how many women are affected across all walks of life. Which, not surprisingly, includes a lot of writers (independent of skill).

And fic writers use fanfic to recontextualize and deal with our experiences and our fears; whole [[https://fanlore.org/wiki/On_the_Subject_of_Noncon_Fanworks:_Thoughts_of_a_Reader,_Writer,_Survivor essays]] have been written on the use of fanfiction to help survivors deal with their trauma (either as a writer or as a reader or both). Yeah, many of these are going to be poorly written, because fanfiction \\\'\\\'as a whole\\\'\\\' is (commonly) poorly written* -- but \\\'\\\'no\\\'\\\', good fics don\\\'t routinely shy from difficult or controversial topics, quite the opposite. You think good writers who\\\'ve been victimized aren\\\'t going to use their writing to fight back in a way they couldn\\\'t any other way?

What even the hell, man.

*Clarification: Fanfiction doesn\\\'t go through the editorial process that published work does, and it doesn\\\'t have the gatekeeping that published work has. It\\\'s open to everyone at every level of skill, without barriers, hence why I say that a lot of it is poorly written. That\\\'s not a slam against those fics -- writers need to start somewhere, and fic is a great place to explore the craft and get feedback. I didn\\\'t mean to imply that fanfic doesn\\\'t contain a lot of \\\'\\\'incredibly\\\'\\\' good writing, because it does.
