{{Hypocrite}} was attracting a lot of misuse back in the day (particularly complaining and bashing usage). Persistent, long-term misuse is a very common reason for why a lot of tropes end up becoming in-universe only tropes. In-universe only tropes don\'t need someone to come right out and say \'Hey, you\'re a hypocrite!\' to be in effect, but the work does have to make it absolutely clear in some fashion that the trope is in effect and it\'s not the audience just deciding that\'s how it looks to them.
