* WhamEpisode: The story builds up a Union threat to the ESU and the Anvil from the beginning of story and pits them against the Union mech, Nemesis in what starts to become a very personal enemy for the gen:LOCK recruits. However, instead of the expected build-up towards the season finale, Episode 6 consists of a full-scale Union assault on the Anvil to obtain the gen:LOCK project, recruits and Dr. Weller. With the Anvil overrun and the Vanguard\'s fate unknown, the GL Team are forced to go on the run, isolated from everyone they know and ill-equipped to face the level of danger they\'re in. With the mid-season climax altering the way the plot line is unfolding, the audience\'s perception of the season\'s end-game and the climax that it\'s building towards is completely changed.

** Early episodes discuss the extreme risk of putting the Anvil, Weller and the GL programme in the same location given how much the Union wants all of it. Especially since the Polity expects to lose North America in six months and at least on Union spy managed to infiltrate both the ESU and the Anvil.

* Fans were speculating that Nemesis was Chase a couple of episodes before Episode 6, and all the groundwork then got laid out in the episodes leading up to Episode 6, so Nemesis\'s identity isn\'t part of the Wham because it\'s something fans were able to guess in advance.
* Focussing on the status of characters who aren\'t confirmed to be dead or alive is WMG and not relevant to the trope. This information is covered by the UncertainDoom trope.

** In the promotional trailers, Weller and Marin discuss the fact the Union want Weller and his research, the final trailer even has the Union successfully locating him and moving in on his location.
** The show discusses early on that the Polity is taking a huge risk putting Weller and the ESU in the same location as the Anvil given the fact both are very high priority for the Union, one Marin thinks is too great given that the Union have already infiltrated the ESU and made it onto the Anvil base once, and also given the fact that the Polity is expected to lose North America within six months.
** What does appear to be the Wham factor is the fact that the end-of-season climax isn\'t what the fandom thought it was. The storyline looked like it was building towards an assault on the Anvil and a personal fight with Nemesis for the season\'s climax. It wasn\'t because the expected pay-off ends up happening in Episode 6, leaving it very uncertain as to what the real climax of the season is going to be.

* The Wham factor seems to be the fact that the end-of-season climax the fandom was expecting with the Union and Nemesis occurred in Episode 6, leaving the fandom confused and puzzled as to what the season\\\'s true end-game and climax will be.

Okay, I asked on the Is This An Example? forum thread if this was an example of WhamEpisode or misuse (the trope often gets misused by way of \'shocking events\'). Things aren\'t Wham examples if (for example): the storyline has been building up to this, if there have been events that have been foreshadowed, or if the audience has been able to predict certain reveals in advance of them.

There\'s no denying that Episode 6 was shocking for the fandom, and the general reaction was that the suddenness with which the storyline escalated into the battle was unexpected in the sense that the episode felt like a season finale event rather than a mid-season climax. So, I\'m not saying there\'s nothing here that would fit the trope. What I am saying is that we need to split off the stuff that doesn\'t meet the trope requirements and concentrate on the bit that does: which is being hit with a full-scale Union attack on the Anvil that isolates the GL Team and puts them on the run when it\'s only mid-season, instead of what appeared to be a build up to an end-of-season climax. It has left the fandom unsure as to what the end of season climax is actually going to be given how soon the Union invasion of the Anvil occurred.

What we need to do is split off what isn\\\'t relevant to the trope and rewrite what is.
