The definition of SOA is: \"This is about works that, for the most part, never cross the line to bad or good. They just stay roughly in the middle, in the opinion of the viewer — they don\'t remember anything particularly bad about it, but then they don\'t remember anything particularly good, either\".

This does not correspond with the reactions to this movie, as the reactions have been all around the spectrum of positive to middling to negative, not a solid \"meh\". A 73% on RT is actually in the positive range and the IMDB score actually went up from a 3.1, which is what it was before the movie\'s actual release. Likewise, the box office actually surpassed Sony\'s predictions and opened 2nd only before Secret Lives of Pets (and first in other countries) - so not a smash hit but not exactly a disappointment.

Additionally, while SOA acknowledges a work can have fandoms or hatedoms, it also states \"don\'t expect the works to be outright polarizing or have Fan Dumbs or Hate Dumbs. That is Love It or Hate It\". Which seems to suit this movie better.
