Thanks, that sounds like the one. Darker movie than I remember, tho.
Looking for a movie, from 2000 or earlier, where a dog understands English, but doesn't talk. He can type on a computer keyboard with a pencil in his mouth.
There's this research lab where a woman is trying to teach a dog to read, essentially by showing and reading the animal flashcards with English letters. And animal-rights group raids the lab, releasing all the animals. One man takes in this now-loose dog to his house. The dog informs this guy who his trainer is by bringing all kinds of objects into the room. All items were white (dog barks), so he looks in the phone book for people named White (dog barks when correct name is reached). He calls her and the woman comes to pick up the dog.
As another twist, this man was falsely wanted for murder, one that the dog actually witnessed. So when a news report comes on TV mentioning the man by name, and the woman is present, the dog goes up to a computer and types "he no killr", elating the woman that the dog has indeed learned language.
