This seems to ring a bell... I think I read a story like this (in Canada) that had me afraid to go off the diving board for a while. Do you remember any details about the book itself? I probably won't remember anything else aside from "it feels familiar", but any little detail would help.
Sorry, but other than the fact that it MIGHT ( very big emphasis on might ) have a group of different dutch writers of children horror stories known in Dutch as "het griezelgenootschap"( I can't find the English name but it translates literally to either Scare or Horror Society) that was all the info I have.

As the title implies i'm looking for a book of short stories that I read at some point in the 90's. I remember one story that was about a kid that was scared to dive form the high board. The instructor tells him to come after closing time to practice diving from the high board. As he arrives he sees a girl dive into the empty ( as in drained of water pool) while the instructor cries. I think it ended with the boy being forced to climb up to the board by the instructor but I might be wrong. There is a chance this book was Dutch
