It's Digimon indeed, the episode where MegaKabuterimon appears for the first time.
Number one fan of characters that appear only once and ultimately were a recurring character either in disguise or trying a new image. If Phantom Dusclops 92 is right (and I agree with them), the episode is from season one and is called "No questions, please".
The episode revolves around Izzy falling into a hole and being tricked by a digimon named Vademon into giving up his sense of curiosity in exchange for not falling to his and Tentomons deaths. The reason why Izzy forms letters with his body is thanks to Vademon, after taking his curiosity, telling Izzy something about needing to clear his mind of all thoughts to be happy, with the excercise being supposed to help clear it.
The space like area most of the episode takes place in is Vademon's dimension.

I've tried to dig this up online a few times over the years and never actually found it, but this snapshot memory has bugged me for a long time. Years ago, probably pre-2000, definitely pre-2005, I ran across this scene on TV, and part of me thinks it was Digimon or another kids' anime, but it may have been a western show.
The scene was pretty surreal, with a blank black or space/stars background, and there was a boy floating around reciting the alphabet while his body contorted into each letter. His voice was flat and echoed a little bit, like a dream sequence or other kind of abstract scene. I believe the other characters needed to wake him up or save him, like he was entranced or possessed by something, but I can't be sure. Anyone else remember this?
